also dealing with yet another hurricane.

So your case airflow wont be a problem then! 😉  Oh wait, I was thinking of tornadoes. 😛  Ahem, so more water cooling?

Let's see if PBO can help me any.  There's plenty of temp for it to play with, fans usually not ramped much at all. LOL

I turned PBO off a few days ago as I felt the voltage was a little high and didn't want the hassle of trying to manually adjust the voltage offset.  Plus its so hard to be enthusiastic about another 50K for 50W when the Macbook Pro can get 250K at ~35W.

Speaking of, project 18415 is a beast, 28% complete with 9 hours to go on a 5950X using 8 threads.

I thought about doing this aswell. Maybe order like 5 of them and later send them back. Just for folding. But seemed like a lot of effort 😄

In other good news, yesterday was the first 18454 WU that didn't crash on my 480

It was more the fact the NVIDIA site said "Buy Now" rather than "Out of Stock".  I've literally never seen it say anything other than out of stock as I went through the same song and dance trying to get a 3080 FE last year.

With the 4090 though, even though my case says it can take 190mm air coolers, I wasn't confident any of the good AIB models would fit without an uncomfortable bend radius on the adapter and given the (granted limited) reports of melting plugs and the fact the AIBs are all about £200 over their RRP, I'd pretty much come to the conclusion if I couldn't get an FE I'd just have to wait until prices get more sane.

Also interesting that it got added to my Scan account when you have to provide all fresh details on the NVIDIA site.  Maybe because I was already logged in to the Scan site?

Plus the fact its getting warmer for a few days, I was concerned I might have to stop folding on the 3080 or pull its power limit down.

You're already buying a 4090. Nothing sane about that price anyway 😉

Here in Germany they start from 2100€ 😄

Update on the overclocked GT 1030: I left it running F@h overnight, and so far so good. It seems to be perfectly stable (for F@h, at least), and the temperatures haven't increased at all. The power consumption only went up about 1 watt, and for that increase my PPD on that card went from 93K to 120K. Now I'll just have to see if that remains the same over time.

Normally I wouldn't even bother folding on such a low end card, but I got this one for free and figured it couldn't hurt to throw it in the mix for folding month. Despite being an incredibly low end card, this thing actually started out life installed in a fancy HP Omen gaming desktop. It was paired with a Ryzen 5 1400 CPU, the oldest and lowest end Ryzen 5 chip from AMD. The GT 1030 was replaced by a brand new Radeon RX 6600 back in May, and the GT 1030 was given to me to do with as I see fit.

Phobos: AMD Ryzen 7 2700, 16GB 3000MHz DDR4, ASRock B450 Steel Legend, 8GB Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070, 2GB Nvidia GeForce GT 1030, 1TB Samsung SSD 980, 450W Corsair CXM, Corsair Carbide 175R, Windows 10 Pro

Polaris: Intel Xeon E5-2697 v2, 32GB 1600MHz DDR3, ASRock X79 Extreme6, 12GB Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080, 6GB Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Ti, 1TB Crucial MX500, 750W Corsair RM750, Antec SX635, Windows 10 Pro

Pluto: Intel Core i7-2600, 32GB 1600MHz DDR3, ASUS P8Z68-V, 4GB XFX AMD Radeon RX 570, 8GB ASUS AMD Radeon RX 570, 1TB Samsung 860 EVO, 3TB Seagate BarraCuda, 750W EVGA BQ, Fractal Design Focus G, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations

York (NAS): Intel Core i5-2400, 16GB 1600MHz DDR3, HP Compaq OEM, 240GB Kingston V300 (boot), 3x2TB Seagate BarraCuda, 320W HP PSU, HP Compaq 6200 Pro, TrueNAS CORE (12.0)

Woohoo, I traded away my 1080 for a 3070, a Zotac Twin Edge OC thing! (Please excuse the, uh, quite liberal Kryonaut application lol.)

It folds and overclocks like an absolute champ too! Nearly 5M PPD, and rock-stable with a huge memory overclock.

Very nice! I don't have a whole lot of experience with GA104-based cards (the only one I've used is the RTX A4000), but I've had a pretty good experience folding on a GA102 (3080). The only thing I don't really like about the 3080 is the massive power consumption (by my standards, that is), and the heat that it puts out because of that power consumption is a bit hard to deal with sometimes.

The temperature in your Afterburner screenshot is quite a bit lower than the 3080 I'm using right now. Does it stay that low under an extended load? If so, that's pretty good.

I'm currently in need of more watts of heat, after the sun goes down it gets really chilly really fast.

So I found a sick deal on a 2070S, $100 but is throwing weird artifacting.

How close to dead is this card? My only experience with this kind of artifacting is from a Quadro that had Hours of life left and a driver that was like 6yrs old for support.

Seller says that the green areas change with boot and sometimes is totally fine, can be fixed with a re-seat.
