AMD GPUs get the second citizen treatment by the F@H team and I can't override that as if you have the best or worst model of that series they are all reported the same in client, F@H and therefore the DB.

I believe the issue with AMD GPUs being grouped together isn’t a F@H issue but due to the fact AMD is assigning the same PCIe DeviceID code to multiple GPUs making F@H unable to distinguish between different models.

I've got a question about folding on this 3080. Is 82° too high for constant folding? I got confirmation today that the Gigabyte is accepting my RMA request, so I'm not too worried about this card. However, since I'll have it for at least the next week or so I'd like to keep it folding as much as I can. Currently it's sitting in a case with no side panel installed (it would completely suffocate if it was installed - the case is from 2003 and has basically zero front intake), and all three of the fans are running at nearly full speed.

Phobos: AMD Ryzen 7 2700, 16GB 3000MHz DDR4, ASRock B450 Steel Legend, 8GB Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070, 2GB Nvidia GeForce GT 1030, 1TB Samsung SSD 980, 450W Corsair CXM, Corsair Carbide 175R, Windows 10 Pro

Will be fine, I run cards well into the 80s sometimes for folding

Cool, thanks. Just wanted to confirm that it's alright for such a massive card. I'm fine with these temps on my older cards (my poor little XFX RX 570 4GB is in the 90s - both fans are failing), but this 3080 is already limping along so I was more concerned about it. I currently have no intentions of buying a Gigabyte GPU for myself after seeing how this one has turned out.

If their defence, my best card that I've owned is the aorus Waterforce 1080

I heard they had issued with their 30 series power stages but I don't think it's typical for them. My gigabyte board has been running since Ryzen release basically 24/7 without a single issue too

I've had decent luck with other Gigabyte products, but this RTX 3080 only lasted three months in a gaming PC with moderate usage at 1080p before it started crashing at random. I've tried everything I can think of and I can't get it to stay stable. It worked in my machine for about a month, but since then it's been crashing more and more.

I'm still on a GTX 1080 for my personal main machine, and I don't currently see the need to spend so much money on a new GPU. I just feel bad for the owner of this 3080. They've had better luck with my GTX 1080 that I bought from eBay lol.

Also doesn't help that essentially:

590= super OC perfect 580

580= 480 refresh

570= imperfect 580

480=perfect OG die

470= imperfect 480

@LAR_Systems

Curious question:

Currently folding 16984 on my 2600X, second time today, but it doesn't show in the performance database, how many entries does it take for a new entry CPU/GPU to show up?

so on that one(seeing i done folding with 3 different cards)

you have to ddu the driver if you adding more then 1 card,second full uninstall folding.

then have all gpu in installed.

so if you have a 460  ,550,560. get the 460 driver.

install it. reboot pc.

after all that install folding software.

As Spec says it’s ok for short durations but long term likely too hot. Personally I like to keep my GPUs under 75C and fans below 75%

if your worried about it just knock the power-limit down till it’s running where you like.

yes, but i moved the server form the office at work to a rack and i now lost OOB connection. But points are still coming through so i guess it still goes?

anyway, last time i checked, the fan was at a constant 80% and the GPU a frosty 55C under load. Success!

Driver is driver, as long as the intended GPU is in the list, it works. Ever look at the driver release notes when new GPU's launch and you have an old GPU? Says "adds support for xxxx GPU". If you had to have a custom driver for each card, do you have any idea what kind of crippling overhead that would cause?

Maybe Nvidia does it differently, but AMD (apart from with older APU graphics and special configs) has list of cards with driver support being "this driver supports: "

Can also debunk that as I only update with Radeon control, it picks the driver and it's the same version for each one that I looked through when they screwed up the drivers in april-ish

What reports what GPU it is is the bios on the card. That's why those fermi cards reported as 1050ti

I may have gotten a friend's laptop with a 1050Ti to fold on for a couple of weeks 🙂 just waiting for an all-okay from him.

I expect around 400-450k PPD from it, it's more for benchmarking sake tbh

So I walk into my room and hear this awful noise, it sounded like a fan has eaten a wire, it was getting louder and then quieter, and then louder and quieter... I'm silently crouching near my gaming PC... it's not that... Then I go to foldatron, it's not that... I think oh god it's the laptop! It's not that... there was only a bloody road sweeper outside and I had the window open

Dam i was so close but not too far away...except the low end cpu

tbh running 7950X on air is like running a low end cpu. In my defence I bought the cooler and Case well before the review were out for the CPU. otherwise I would have went with AiO
