The 10 series really was one of the best Nvidia ever released. I'm currently trying to find a few cheap 10 series cards on eBay for F@H. 🙂 But I've also got a 980 on the line for 50€.

same here. then there a sweet spot tesla or wth it called now brand. gpu that great for it. but rarely go down in cost. also getting wu to work on it. is  tricky.

btw, anyone know the PPD of a Tesla M60? Tried searching the lar database and the internet, but nothing really comes up.

I'm looking into getting a few of them, since their spot rates on azure are comparably cheaper than others.

Consensus seems to be that the F@H performance of a M60 is less than a 980ti for each of the GPUs due to being power-limited to 150W each GPU, having a smaller number of shaders (CUDA cores) and a more limited boost clock.

This person saw 404kPPD per GPU on core 22 so about 1/2 of what a 980ti shows on the LARsystems database

Nice. GPUs finished starting at 05:30 EDT and the basement now is at 23C so 10C cooler. This week's forecast shows lower temps so hopefully things will be a littler cooler

Dunno if I mentioned this here already, but I got an MSI 1080 Gaming X! After installing the latest driver, it handily folds 1.5M PPD, easily outdoing my 780 Ti and GTX 670 combined.

Yeah, the 1080 is a great card. I picked up a cheap HP OEM model from eBay over the summer ($150 with free shipping), and that card has been in use daily ever since. That 1.5M PPD figure is about what I was getting from mine when I was still folding on it. I can't use it during folding month unfortunately since it's currently installed in a computer belonging to someone else, but in its place I temporarily have an RTX 3080 instead. It's a 3080 that randomly crashes, but it's a 3080 nonetheless.

I'm definitely looking forward to getting my 1080 back though. I don't know how they did it, but HP managed to use a pretty good cooler for this card. It's a dual fan model that looks like this (picture from Reddit):

V1L4Hyv.thumb.jpeg.43982efd2e501dcc49a64c82eecce154.jpeg

At completely stock settings it runs relatively cool and very quiet. It's so quiet that I can't even tell if it's running F@h from more than a few feet away. It doesn't use a ton of power, it's not extremely large, and it's still quite capable for non-F@h tasks as well. All around it's a great sweet spot for F@h PPD and general performance. It's not the most efficient thing out there, but it's not terrible either.

How's the cooler on your MSI card? I've always thought those cards looked rather aggressive, for lack of a better term, but I've heard good things about them.

At this point they might as well just convert a suitcase into a full ATX case.  Might even fit a 4090 in it. 😛

Of course you'd need to be a body builder to carry it.

Router:  Intel N100 (pfSense) WiFi6: Zyxel NWA210AX (1.7Gbit peak at 160Mhz)
WiFi5: Ubiquiti NanoHD OpenWRT (~500Mbit at 80Mhz) Switches: Netgear MS510TXUP, MS510TXPP, GS110EMX
ISPs: Zen Full Fibre 900 (~930Mbit down, 115Mbit up) + Three 5G (~800Mbit down, 115Mbit up)

Wow, not bad at all. I don't have any hard numbers from my own 1080 (I haven't had it in my possession in well over a month), but I think mine is usually a bit hotter than that. Can't really complain though for the price. If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for your 1080?

In general the GP104 seems to be a great GPU in several different configurations. I also own a Quadro P4000 (I think @GOTSpectrum recently got one as well), and it's a cut down GP104-based card. It has 8GB of memory like the 1080, but it's GDDR5 instead of GDDR5X. However, thanks to having fewer cores enabled it draws less power than the full 1080. Right now it's sitting around 80W-90W, and it doesn't go much higher than that when folding. It definitely runs hot though.

Bought it off a friend for $130. How 'bout you?

Not bad at all. I bought mine for $150 on eBay back in July. At that time most of the ones I found were around the $200 mark if not higher, so $150 was a good deal. It came in handy when I needed to loan it to a friend of mine who was experiencing random crashes with their RTX 3080. That's why I have their 3080 in my computer right now - I've been trying to figure out why it's crashing, and at this point I'm just going to look into replacing it entirely.

Lucky you. I don't have that luxury here, but power is fairly cheap. I also use the heat from my GPUs to heat the house, so my natural gas bill is basically nonexistent.

I don't remember the memory frequency off the top of my head, but when folding, that GPU is right around the 2000 MHz mark. I overclocked it, so I'm doing around 1.6-1.7M PPD.

my 1080 really underperforms by the looks of it, usually sitting a little over a million points. seems unusual for a card doing over 2ghz

Hmm, a 1080 should get quite a bit higher than that even at stock settings. Is the entire card being cooled properly?

I mean it's on water and is happy at th clocks it's at. power limited to 80% but maintains a 2025 Mhz core with ease

yep it is..,Calculon jsut finished one too...i will take one for the team...but want to say that that professor or the FAH group them selves need to fix the points or some competitive peeps will cancel them. note i have asked in the Foldingforums to see if they have an answer...

How do you cancel a WU? They get pushed to you and even if you tell it "fold for this condition" it just ignores it and pushes it anyway. Based on the logs I was looking through, it looks like it's trying to fold two proteins at the same time, as if it was designed to be run on a dual GPU card
