LTT Dress Code

PeteyBoPetey

I don't like to be negative or give people a hard time, so take this as constructive criticism.

LTT is a $25 million business with over 3 million viewers globally. Moppy hair, tracky dacks and a T-shirt, walking around like you just got out of bed doesn't cut it. Colton, James and Riley are always well dressed and groomed. Honestly, how hard is it to wear a pair of chinos and a polo or colored shirt. A haircut wouldn't be a bad idea either.

Keep in mind, a lot of prospective future employers are watching.

Just my 2 bob.

That's the Linus way.

It's how he intends to look.

Employers or employees?
If employers, I doubt Linus is going to stop working at LMG.

IMO, if someone isn't talking in-person to corporate big-wigs in official settings, if they get their work done, they can wear what/look how they want.

when you run a media company, you can then decide how your employees with dress and be groomed. Until then, this is how Linus wants to run his and allows his employees the freedom of being relaxed and enjoying themselves.

I think you're going to need to reflect on where LTT has come from in order to see where they are, and where they're going.

It doesn't exactly have it's roots in corporate hoity-toity. It's unboxings outside. It's RC firetrucks in an echoy room. It's in a garage, it's in a house that was converted into a studio. It's approachable. It's entertainment, It's not corporate.

The audience that you appeal to discerns your direction. When we don't have to be corporate or corporate casual, most of us are what you see as "unfit" for his on-screen appearance.

So what? People are doing their jobs and they've been doing this for over 12 years and it worked out well for them so far. I don't see any issues with it, just because it's a business doesn't mean that employees needs to have informal wear.

And yet somehow they've achieved this in spite of their employees wearing "tracky dacks" (whatever the heck that means). When you build a similarly successful company, you can make your employee dress code whatever you want. The appearance of the employees at LTT is pretty typical for a tech/new media company, and any prospective future employers that would find fault with it probably aren't places they would want to work anyway.

Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. Watch this space for further truths people need to hear.

If the literal CEO of the company (Linus), doesn't give a damn what he looks like (he wears socks and sandals... You really think he cares?), who are we to tell them to dress better? Who are you to think polos and chinos is more appropriate ? And why? Future employees looking at them would just think "Hurray! I don't have to buy clothes I'll never use outside of work!"

It doesn't matter how much money they make, it's their right to dress however they want.

It's a very casual company, so the way people dress doesn't surprise me. It also doesn't bother me. They don't really interact with customers on a daily basis, so why do they need to dress up? They make YouTube videos.

this is one of those 'who cares?!' situations. not in a disrespectful way, but in a real questioning way.

would a prospective employer really look at the CV of a candidate and go "wait, didn't this guy wear shorts at the previous company he worked at?!"

if they decide on a dress code, good for them. if not, good too.

with their laid back casual style they have, I feel like they are more relatable to their audience though.

P.S. even though hairdressers are open again in BC, Canada I don't think it's that weird that people haven't gone to one in a pandemic.

LTT doesn't need a dress code.

Linus doesn't give a crap about fashion.

I respect that he is trying to make his employees more free than a normal office job and as long as he treating employees right I don't give a crap.

Who the hell would hire Linus after dropping a 10k CPU?

You're also looking at this the wrong way. They're not a business that deals with crazy volatile contracts with very needy clients. They're just YouTubers. They get cool tech that no one could even dream of affording, show it off and play with it (and sometimes break it), film it in the process, and then they upload it to YouTube for our enjoyment. Does it really turn you off when Linus has wacky hair and wears socks and sandals? Maybe stop judging people by how they want to look, and judge them by how they act. Yeah, Linus can be dumb (he's addicted to gravity), but he's not a schill, and he's always honest with his audience - whom he puts FIRST (and not just because he's out of a job without them). He's a good person (despite not pronouncing coupon properly), so just look at them from a different perspective and your own attitude will (hopefully) change.

Never heard of LTT the business. I've heard of LMG, which owns LTT and all other LTT related channels. But how tf do you know what it's worth? Those numbers aren't public, nor do they really matter. LMG is not, nor ever will be, public and tradeable. Linus has said he has no intentions to ever sell the channel/business.

Not all future employers are youtube channels. And LMG could be the last job many of the employees have. Besides, most former employees are free lancing now.

You seem to not watch all the videos then. I remember Colton (at least recently) as wearing company merch and idk jeans or something when he's been on camera. James and Riley are the same. Riley mostly wears jeans (maybe chinos) and a t shirt, at least how I remember him from tl and other videos

At the end of the day, LMG is not a super serious workplace. It never has been. Hell, in the early days in the house Luke and Linus would wear pajamas

the dress code seems to be "wear clothes, shoes optional (Luke in the GN behind the scenes video), if on camera wear merch and be presentable"

If the HOSTS of the episodes look like they just rolled out of bed, based on the content they are shooting, it may be appropriate to endear the audience. Other times dress up and look more put together but it's not going to stop production because someone didn't iron their jeans.

Kind of hard to expect the employees to present professionally when the actual CEO doesn't really keep himself groomed to any meaningful degree.

So the company does have dress code. But it really is casual. Wear company merch. They look like modern, nerdy, young tech company. Pretty much like guys I bought my first own PC parts (one of the largest hardware retailers here). They dress like their crowd.

It must vary in places overall. But I haven't been in any midrange workplace where there wouldn't be at least someone going with tshirt and jeans style. And usually they are the main tech-guy.
