How many of you are as boringly sober as I am?

Mister Woof

I'm almost 40, and I don't really drink. Might have a glass of wine during the holidays at family dinner, but otherwise, alcohol is for cleaning IHS's, wounds, and cooking only.

I can count on my left hand the numbers of times I've had a drink in the past year. Anyone else as boringly sober as I am?

I've had roughly 4-5 beverages in my lifetime, don't dig the taste at all.

The only ones I can say I enjoy the taste of are so low in alcohol it may as well just be a soda.

I drink like maybe once or twice a year...just doesn't do much for me. Also, even if I don't drink to the point of being flat-out drunk, I wake up with a migraine. I call it a blessing that my body essentially rejects alcohol.

Came here thinking this was not about drinks and something else. Was going to say 8 years off that stuff. As far as drink goes... I work in a dry camp. So I'm a week dry.

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

I will find your mentions of Ikea or Gnome and I will /s post.

My last drink was almost 2 years ago. I drank a lot when I got to university but that quickly ended after a semester. I drink once or twice a year but I dont enjoy drinking at all. If I am at friends and they are drinking I get the least abv beer and sip on it all night. I prefer smoking kush.

I don't drink. I don't smoke anything. I have no qualms with admitting that. I'm afraid of what I'd be if I was intoxicated; that alone is a good reason to be sober for me.

I only drink on special occasions. And when I do, its only a small amount spread out over a few hours. My body hates alcohol to the point of severe stomach aches.

Wouldn't call it boringly sober, I like having memories and don't see getting drunk as some kind of achievement or something people should strive for.

I drank at home during winter break which wasn’t nearly the same when going out to bars with friends. Got into the Hard Kombucha stuff. I tried my luck at a casino that still had restaurants and bars opened inside. Made sure we weren’t buzzed too much though when gambling. I won’t drink during my uni’s semester which starts soon.

I tend to drink alcoholic beverages that are very tart as it helps to kind of hide the alcohol. I personally hate the taste and feeling of alcohol, and I definitely do not drink to the point of being drunk. Not only do I find it dumb, but I hate the feeling of being dizzy. Just isn't fun to me.

Just develop a taste for the good stuff. Highlands Scotch is my poison of choice, and with that, you can't afford to get drunk more than once or twice a year.

Of course, if you're drunk on Scotch, you have totally missed the point.

And if I ever see someone cleaning a CPU with Lagavulin 16, I will kill them myself. Then take their Lagavulin and drink it.

I don't drink and have never drunk alcohol, ever.

It's not something I do because I look down on it, think alcohol is bad, etc. etc.

This decision just comes from a point of view where I want to be in control of who I am and what I do. Of course I've never drunk alcohol in my life, so I can't judge it, but alcohol of course makes you more open and thus less in control of your actions. That is not something I want to experience.

I feel like some time in the future I might drink, as I understand it's of course possible to drink alcohol without becoming ludicrously drunk, but I don't foresee it happening anytime soon.

I might have a shot here and there with family. Outside of that I only drink at my friend Jeff's house. His rule is if he throws you a Jell-O shot you ass better take it.

Ah... 'Chew likes to drink. 😁

Drink, as in, nonalcoholic beverages like water and tea (but no coffee or sparkling water, pls, I dislike that stuff 😅), and sweet alcohols like sparkling sake, apple cider, and some wines. Self-restraint is always at the back of my mind, however, so I limit myself to one small glass or can of alcohol per week. The other restraining factor is cost, kek. I'd rather blow my disposable income on keeb and tech stuff that I can get more mileage out of, than a fleeting taste and a short, fuzzy feeling.

For those who equate being sober with being boring, you may want to consult your toxicologist. And while you're at it, go see the undertaker as well, it won't be long before you'll need their services :old-eyeroll:

Alcoholism and addiction runs on both sides of my family. I do not want to fuck around with that. I mean, have you ever been addicted to something before? Like actually addicted, not just "oh tehe I need my morning coffee". It's in freaking sane. I've become addicted to a very certain kind of burger from Burger King - and going without it makes me shaky (yes, for real). I know that sounds messed up (because it is) but that's what I deal with. I'd rather it be burgers than something like drugs or alcohol.

In fact, when I turned 21 (so many years ago now), I had to really put my foot down when my mom wanted to take me out bar hopping to get plastered (her words too). After a semi heated discussion I finally got through to her, and she seemed like she was in literal shock. Like she couldn't believe how adult I was being at the time. So instead, I got to drive a hydrogen electric car for my 21st birthday (21 was the minimum age for the insurance policy). It was pretty dang cool too.

I'm addicted to other things as well (namely, adult content) and boy do I hate it. I hate what I do, but yet, I can't stop myself. Once again, I get the shakes. It's almost an involuntary series of actions at this point - I'd say I need actual help like therapy or something. Same goes for that damn burger. I can spend upwards of 200 bucks every month on that shit. Thankfully, my best friend has a home gym, so I'm gonna start trying to focus some of that energy on that. Hopefully I lose a lot of weight too - I'm 180lbs (very much overweight per two different doctors).

So no, I don't drink adult beverages and I honestly don't understand why people want to be "black out drunk" all the time. I mean, I can understand to a degree with addiction, but why would you ever want to be in a state of mind where you don't have any cognizance and can very easily get into trouble or cause death? Never made sense to me. I always thought drinking was hugely overplayed by today's media (like TV shows and what not).

sorry for the long post. i just needed to vent ;_;

I recently was drinking energy drinks every day for over a year. To the point where I would get upset if I didn't get it, and would get crushing headaches.

It's been about a month and a half now, and while I still drink a good amount of coffee, I don't have the same kind of withdrawal symptoms.

It's nuts.

While I didnt shake or convulse by giving it up. I had to give up candy. Id go to the store and buy a big bag of what I called diabetes. I had a problem. I was on my way to getting type II. After getting on medicaid and going to see a doctor for a physical, she pretty much said I needed to get my sugar under control or id have diabetes in my 30's. So I gave up candy. It was hard, I did relapse once.

Mainly I had to give up Twizzlers, skittles, anything fruity. I do chew gum and use Altoids to help with the cravings.

I don't like the taste of alcohol so..

I do sometimes like alcoholic things, but while I do like the main taste, I totally hate the after taste, besides the fact that I cannot stand to alcool, it's like poisoning yourself

so in case I usually look for non alcoholic alternatives or similar drinks, like fraussbrase, or Almdudler cool drinks discovered in Germany that somewhat resemble beers and have a grassy/fruitish flawor
