people who don't game

I don't really game on PC anymore, can't justify the cost/inconvenience at this point in my life. I game on my Switch now and work on my workstation.

Last PC gaming rig I built was a 780 Ti/4770k machine that cost around 2k. When it came time to replace it I realized most of my gaming time had migrated to the TV and I was just like... Yeah I'd rather spend 2k on other things.

I have not really play games seriously for almost a year, it was beyond sad cause I couldn't get passed that I quite my previous MMO (archeage), I played some PS4 games like assassin's Creed, Witcher 3, some even smaller ones, but I want to REALLY start "new world" MMO.

Now replace MMO to "serious relationship" and the other ones to "occasional relationship" and all will make sense :D

If there is anyone old enough here to have played Harvest Moon on the SNES, god help you when you discover Stardew Valley.

That game is digital Heroin. I have more hours in that game than any other game in my Steam library.

The only thing I wasn't entirely ENTHRALLED by, is the soundtrack. It's just not as good as the SNES Harvest Moon soundtrack. Specifically the winter theme.

I don't know why I love it so much, maybe it's just because I love the winter. I love snow, and the cold.

Compare to

It's just not as good.

Not bad, but still not as good.

I have 1,230 hours in Stardew Valley. I regret none of it. If anything I am dying for more. I'd have happily payed $60 for it, and been far happier than paying that much for the likes of Battlefield 3, 4, and 1.

It's such a simple concept for a game, but it just mashes my serotonin button the way that comedian whose name I can't spell and can't be bothered to google, smashed watermelons.

Edit: I am not responsible for your new addiction.

I game, but I wouldn't call myself a "gamer". I mostly focus on single player games like AC or Tomb Raider and strategy like Civ. I occasionally play stuff like WoW, but even then, I prefer solo leveling.

I'm a graphics snob, though, so I still have a decent graphics card, just so I can push 1440p on Ultra everything. Otherwise, my only real concern is pure raw performance for my programming work.

It wasn't specifically your question, but I'm going to read into it a bit. I find the sole focus on gaming rather annoying. Every question of what kit to buy is always how many FPS. I'd love to see more focus on building machines for pure work tasks. Linus admitted to the lack of that kind of content in one video, because that's no really their wheel house. There's a video they did about building a budget 4K video editing rig, though, and I found that to be one of the most fascinating videos he's done. Even though it wasn't directly applicable to me, it actually finally focused on a real work scenario. I'd love to see more of that kind of stuff.

Certainly not a modern gamer.

I just play Skyrim, Cities Skylines and Terraria for the most part.

I also dabble in other games but avoid AAA titles, those are best left to console gamers. PC gaming is all about cheap, weird games that no one else plays.

I'm not stricly a non-gamer, but there are times when I just don't feel like playing anything for multiple months. I think I've gone a full 6 months at the longest without playing anything.

It's...very bursty for me, ie. when I find a game that really grabs my attention, I can play it for 12 hours straight -- with bathroom-breaks and food -- for a week or so, and then my interest wanes again and I go back to doing other things. The latest game that did grab me like this was Disco Elysium, which I actually just finished yesterday and boy howdy did I enjoy that game!

It doesn't have an end. Neither did Harvest Moon on the SNES, but only if you "won". Which requires fully restoring the farm, getting married, and IIRC having children. If you didn't fulfill those requirements, your parents show up on the first day of year 3 and yell at you for being lazy.

Stardew Valley, does not do that. It just keeps going. There is a thing on the first day of (I think year 4?) but I won't spoiler.

Definitely check out the mods if you're playing on PC.

Didn't really get the the reason for such a question ;)

I personally don't game, a house to renovate, three kids, other hobbies don't leave any time for gaming. Plus I've lost interests over the years.

Last time I was seriously "gaming" was when I was a teen. Command & Conqueer on PC, and pretty much everything on consoles (thanks to my parents, had all consoles. They were playing too ;) ).

I'm here for the tech part. Love computer, hardware and particularly network stuff.

any non-gamers here?

I'm playing Everquest 2 right now, does that count?  Sometimes I'll play the "How high can I clock my 3900x until it starts crashing game".  Always fun.

On a serious note, I made the mistake of taking game design class once.  Now whenever I play a game I play the software, I look for mistakes, errors, I think how a developer might design a certain level, I look at the patterns, how they do collision detection, try to figure out their logic.  Games are no longer fun, they are just a program with patterns to me.
