I guess they don't want non verified channels to have the content. NASA is verified. NASA Video isn't.

it's like hosting LTT videos on another channel.

If you visit the NASA channel and then look at the channels page it'll show you a list of other channels they have. The "NASA videos" channel is the first one they list.

It was a good launch. A successful booster landing too, on the drone ship - but they lost the feed during touchdown so we didn’t get to actually see the booster landing.

I didn’t watch the docking yet.

Still, pretty exciting stuff.

As per the topic: I imagine either NASA accidentally used some copyrighted NatGeo content (perhaps a song or something), or its an accidental/incorrect flag.

It shouldn’t take long for NASA to get this sorted.

Putting all this funny business aside, isn't the cockpit just amazing? It really looks the space craft I've always wanted to see exist in real life, that only existed in sci-fi. Granted, it isn't like the Enterprise but damn. Just look at the cockpit.

I'm actually starting to have faith again that we will land on Mars in my lifetime and maybe even my parent's lifetime. If anyone can do it, Elon Musk can.

I think it's pretty clear we'll have boots on Mars by 2040 at the latest - but we're well on track to see humans on Mars in the 2030's. I think 2020's are too optimistic (but not actually impossible).

Likely we'll see a return trip in the early 2030's, and perhaps a mostly permanent base established by 2040.

The Lunar Gateway should be starting assembly within the next year or 2, and the Lunar manned mission is slated for 2024.

Not to get too political but that might not end up being the case. Trump seems pretty hell bent on it, that's a fact but his predecessor might not be. It's entirely possible the next POTUS does a full 180 and decides space exploration is a waste of money and without the US involved the RoW (except maybe China who do their own thing anyway) would struggle pretty hard to make a trip to Mars and back a reality.

Private enterprise might now be taking us to the ISS but getting to Mars & back? I don't see it happening for a VERY long time. Its the kind of thing that needs multiple governments from the world all combining forces to make happen.

Private enterprise is already on its way to enabling this.

SpaceX is in the process right now testing early prototypes of their Mars-capable Starship upper stage - They’re up to SN-7 or SN-8 now.

Starship should be ready to fly by next year - perhaps even sooner for suborbital test flights.

Now, the booster stage - BFR - hasn’t started construction or prototype stage yet, but fundamentally BFR is just a Falcon 9 on steroids who also lifts. So that’s more iterative.

But realistically we could see BFR and Starship ready for mission flight within 5 years.

After that, it’s significantly cheaper for a government to send something - or even people - to Mars, compared to building their own system from scratch.

Hell, technically the Falcon Heavy can reach Mars already, as demonstrated on its maiden flight. It’s not rated for human flight, but there is no technical reason a Dragon 2 crew capsule couldn’t be launched from a Falcon Heavy and sent to a Mars orbit.

Some retrofitting might be required to ensure the crew has enough supplies for the trip, such as maybe a large cargo trunk or something. But something like that could be launched this year.

Now the one big at risk Mars vehicle is SLS. It’s super expensive, over budget, and while close to being ready for the first launch, still behind schedule.

NASA’s budget has remained mostly stable for the last few decades. A new administration is not likely to massively slash the budget. And even a moderate slash would still enable NASA to afford Mars manned missions using private sector options like SpaceX and Blue Origin.
