Did it really say anywhere that they are celebrating 200k deaths? I mean, it's logical after the USA passed that mark recently, but why don't they look at Canada? 

I also think that they seem to be pretty illogical given the fact that they're waving Trump flags, yet on the other hand he seems to be against this "it doesn't exist" cause anymore.

Not literally celebrating; it's just a commentary on these people explicitly violating rules (and basic pandemic safety) for their political march. It's like a monument to stupidity.

 

The worst is knowing that those people won't care what happens to others until they get the virus themselves (with their behaviour it's really just a question of when, not if), and then only if they show symptoms. They probably don't even care that they might infect others or cut their own lives short (through heart damage that won't be an issue until later in life).

I meant that by flying Trump / US flags they're essentially celebrating how Trump is handling the crisis.

That seems to be the way of things. Tight restrictions work, so countries loosen restrictions... but because many people interpret loosened restrictions as "everything's back to normal," cases increase faster than expected and prompt talk of tightening restrictions.

Today's number of cases in Quebec is 750, so lower than the 900 from yesterday, but Ontario is now at 700. For Ontario, that's higher than the peak they had in the first wave (640 in April).

 

So Canada is full on 2nd wave. There are talks of surgery being reported for a few months, again. That's not good for the health care system or the economy

 

There's already business closing because of the first wave. A second wave is going to be devastating ... even if they keep stores open, most people are going to restrict in-store shopping and will turn to big online retailers.

I don't think it will be as bad in the second wave. Restaurants for instance have embraced takeout, curb side takeout and delivery. So based on that, I think many restaurants will survive, though they might be running with less people. 

Stores like Walmart and Meijer now do curb side grocery pickup, not to mention the Shipt and other companies offering grocery delivery. The fact is businesses need to learn how to adapt and evolve with the changing times. 

 

I don't see as many businesses closing during the second wave. Mainly due to the fact we have safety protocols now in place. Some business or industries will be screwed however. Bowling alleys, Theaters and arcades will struggle if not go under. I see Drive in Movie Theaters coming back. 

 

Lets be real here. Online retailers were already taking over. Granted this might help a bit, but the writing was on the wall.

I suspect there will be a baseline normality in that we'll get back to being comfortable around strangers without wondering if they'll kill us with a cough. Many social engines will restart. As I'm sure you're aware, though, the great delusion of the pandemic denier is that they'll get to rewind to pre-lockdown society exactly as they remember it. Yeah... even if the virus mysteriously vanished today, that wouldn't happen.

 

I haven't been downtown in my city since March. When I go back (sometime in 2021, hopefully), I expect to see a lot of closed businesses, and those that are open will still be using some pandemic-based precautions for a while to come. I sadly expect a lot of homelessness, too. That and there will probably be a lot of trepidation. Not from the people who are already taking a cavalier attitude, of course, but from people who either don't trust the vaccine or have spent so long avoiding others that they won't know how to comfortably go out again.

1 or 2 lower days don't really mean anything, just like 1 day spikes. The overall average of a few days is a better indicator

So according to some figures I was able to find,

 

Fri - Sat: 68 new cases
Sat - Sun: 125 new cases
Sun - Mon: 74 new cases

Mon - Tues: 105 new cases

Tues - Wed: 125 new cases

 

Seems to be slowly creeping down.

I wonder whether culture also plays a role. Here in Quebec it's a place to park your elders while you wait for them to die.

With regards to general Covid numbers not just care homes, I think culture did play a big role. Because a large percentage of our population have roots in Asia (particularly Hong Kong, Taiwan, and China) including myself, I think more people here were already aware of what happened to SARS back in the early 2000s. So we were already wearing masks out of fear for another SARS and to protect each other even when authorities at the time were discouraging it.

We have similar issues in the US. State runs facilities are horrid. My grandma has Dementia as well as she is diabetic. She's in a much better privately run facility, where they dont share rooms, at least not in the memory unit. But its also costing a pretty penny. Between her pensions, the money she gets from the US government due to my grandfather serving in Korea, and her other retirement benefits she is good for a while at least. But thats the thing, its hard to find a good facility and they are hell of expensive. Most people end up in a cheapest POS option that is available. 

 

But they also did good on protecting residence. There were a few cases but not much. I think one of the employees caught it early and has yet returned to work. Not sure if any residence caught it. They do allow visitors again, but they were doing patio visits, where the resident would be at a Window so their loved ones could see them. By appointment only. I guess they are going to start inside visits, but again, by appointment only.
