G0dSpeed reacted to Kisai in Firefox users down 50 million since 2018
The fact that they're based on Chromium makes them not a real choice.

Microsoft's abandonment of Edge is one of those cases that made me go "OK but that's cedeing control to google in a big way"

Opera, was understandably never competition because it never did something different that other browsers did other than an integrated vpn system... WAY late in it's life after adopting the chromium engine.

Firefox has always been a #2, an alternative to being controlled by Google, but then they kowtow to google things and it's like ... what is even the point?

These companies are too big for their britches and keep trying to get their users to do things they don't want to do:
    - The incomplete H2 upgrade that resulted in pretty much nobody turning it on in their servers
    - The forcing of HTTPS everywhere that was unnecessary, and spreading FUD about
    - The removal of FTP support that was mean-spirited and makes access to a lot of legacy systems impossible.
    - Constant changes to require cloud accounts for absolutely awful privacy-destroying reasons
    - Making the disgusting change to enable WASM by default, thus re-introducing every flaw we got rid of Java and Flash for. The malware/webminers took advantage of it, and it's a constant problem now.
    - Changes to EMCAScript (JavaScript) that make it difficult to maintain legacy code.
    - Attempting to depreciate cookies for alternatives
    - Attempting to depreciate javascript API's to make it harder to block ads

    Meanwhile:
    - Still no h264, h265, VP8/VP9, AVC or AV1 support across devices
    - Still no uniform AAC, Ogg Vorbis, MP3, or Opus support across devices
    - Inconsistent support of animated PNG's, GIF, WebP, WebM
    - No content-protection mechanisms, instead relying on "app"'ification of webapps.

You literately can not build a website that works on everything... the problem we've had since 1995. It's getting worse, not better.

Websites are getting super-bloated with garbage because of things like javascript and WASM being used to create the site rather than actually using the HTML5. At least when pages were server-side generated, the client was only sent the code they needed. Now it seems like every website needs you to download MB's of framework/libraries and if you turn javascript off, the site doesn't even load.

That is where we are at. We're basically overdue to abandon "the web" for something that isn't controlled by google, but people don't want to give up convenience.

You can't hardfork Ethereum successfully without going along with the ETH board because there's a built in "ice age". The chain will become useless unless that gets taken away. And they only take it away in the correct fork.

The Outer Worlds has a similar style to it. That's the only current title that comes to mind. I'm sure there are others but Borderlands was kind of unique when it came out.

you're completely right... but you forget one major aspect:

    - high end graphics cards push the bounds for what developers can do, so the overpriced halo products of today drive the innovation we see tomorrow.
    - high end products contribute FAR mote to the R&D budget than low end products. sure your ryzen 3200G is awesome, sure a GTX1050 in a laptop with nvidia optimus is awesome, but the only reason they were possible to make amazing budget offerings is because of the amount of R&D dollars nvidia can swim in because of what titan RTX and quadro users pay for what is essentially the same base resource: a piece of fiberglass with a piece of silicon on top.

it's not about the "what most people have", but about the possibilities. getting R&D dollars from those who can pay for it, to develop technologies for those who cant.

also, i'd like to argue there's a difference between "playable" or "okay" and the experience one can get from a high end card. isnt there an argument to be made for "just because you can"?

in a different comparison.. having a car with 20 horsepower is enough, it gets you from A to B, it'll just barely squeeze in highway speeds, and it'll be a dang bit cheaper and more economical than a bigger engine.
BUT... i'd dare say most car owners will agree with me that even just an 80 horsepower turbo diesel is a far better driving experience, even though you will NEVER floor the throttle.

fun sidenote.. koenigsegg developed a new way of operating engine valves to get better horsepower per tonne ratios in their hypercars.. that same technology is now a few years old and having a huge boon for fuel efficiency on the tiny cars many of the chinese population are buying. it is in essence the car world's equivalent of proving your statement wrong: because those who really like going overkill on cars bought a hypercar, average joe (or rather.. average Tao) can now buy a car with a lighter engine, which in turn saves on fuel.

Yea that does not sound too great, you can unplug the PSU from the PC, (just pull it out of the system, remove 24 pin, CPU power, sata, all of it) Once the PSU is just sitting on a table, you can use a paper clip or spare piece of wire to test the PSU (Guide below). If it pops or anything, its dead, and will need to be RMAed. Without the paperclip, the PSU will just not turn on, but hopefully the guide makes some sense.

At this point, the Xbox One X is a bad choice, unless you get an excellent deal on it
Getting a 2nd hand xbox one S is a good option too. since the previous gen xbox are still going to get games for the next 2-3 years.
also, xbox one games are getting really cheap, so it's handy to have a disc drive.

Well I would connect check the cooler first to make sure that your pump is working, otherwise the issue is most likely a poor mount with bad thermal paste coverage.

You've got a minimum of 700w worth of GPU's being air cooled in a case that's made for water. You have a bunch of intake but no exhaust. Not that it matters, because you are trying to cool that system with 43cfm fans.

Why did you guys not think to use your graphite pads to enhance the overall effectiveness of the back panel? I did this with thermal pads on my Pro 16 is nearly completely eliminate GPU throttling in windows. It gets hot but isn't too bad. Something like the air wouldn't be able to heat it up nearly as much. (Pictures are missing 3 other pad spots but oh well)

G0dSpeed reacted to Broxxar in Only 2 cores being fully utilised.
Not every game is built to be multithreaded and utilize all cores. It's common for some games to be all one thread, or one main thread + one render thread. New fancy games on modern engines with Job Systems can go wide across cores better. DOOM Eternal as an example, is entirely "job-ified" and apparently has no dedicated main thread for the game loop, so it might be a good game to see how well your CPU performs with parallelization.
