120/140mm "AIO"

WhitetailAni

Many cooling-based questions this (and probably next) month.

I plan to upgrade my system to a Ryzen 9 5900X at some point, but realized that my SpinQ probably can't handle it, especially if it struggles with my 3600 on full load.

So I decided to look at better coolers, but I can only fit 92mm or smaller coolers due to my big side fan.

I'm not switching out my case no matter what.

But what if I created an "AIO" cooler that's made up of 1 120mm and 1 140mm radiator and a pump/block combo?
Is this feasible or not?
This is my case:

140/120mm aio should be better than any cooler under 92mm.

MAke sure to get a good cooler. Like arcit freezer II.

custom cooling will be very expensive.

My case doesn't support 240mm.

It's got a 120mm mount in the back, a 120/140mm mount in the top, and a 120mm mount in the bottom that can support both radiators and fans. It also has a 120mm mount in the front but there's no space for a radiator and fan (or tubes for that matter).
If I can't cool the 5900X I might get a 5800X instead.

Ah.

Is it good? I've heard from many people (including Linus) that 120mm AIOs aren't great.

well Artic freeezer II is the best one of the AIOs. also it should be fairly bit better than any small factor aircooler. since 120mm aio is not that great for 5900x. mount it at bottom for intake.

I'll probably get a 5800X then, especially considering that the room I'm in (and the way that my case is laid out) isn't amazing for high-heat components.

It's basically always been the case that a single 120mm aio is enough to cool a single non-overclocked component. I'm fine with a 120mm in push/pull on a 10700k at 5.1ghz (barely) right now, you should be okay with a 5900x if you don't overclock, but it might get a little toasty.

Bottom mounting an aio isn't that great of an idea if you care about longevity.

Huh.

I'm happy about that - I don't particularly like the 5800X name or specs (5900X, 12 cores just sounds better).

It hard tell if weather or not there is going to be enough clearances for for the rad plus a fan.

However I would use an alphacool eisbaer. Its a fully copper aio and can be expanded on using quick connects or g1/4.

So get the aio as a 140 or 120. Grab a rad for the other side. Then you'll have a top and rear dual rad (120mm and 140mm) full copper aio. The stock fan are fine(be quiet silent wings 2 re branded). Change them out if you want.

Sweet Jebus. If you’re going to spend that much money on a 5900x, spend another $100 and get an updated case that will accept 240/280/360mm AIO. If that case is part of you, make a secondary PC or set up a family member in it to keep it in your life.

Very much theoretical planning that will likely never come to fruition.

Just in case it does, I have a plan.

And no, I'm not changing cases.

Only because I can't find another that has enough 3.5" HDD bays and 5.25" front bays.

Don't think so.

The fan doesn't mount normally (instead of tabs on both sides, just 1 side) and it sticks into the case a fair amount.

Personally I would try to make a 200mm radiator work with your side fan.

https://modmymods.com/alphacool-nexxxos-xt45-full-copper-200mm-radiator-14348.html

200x200x45 = 1,800,000

(120 x 120 x 30) + (140 x 140 x 30) = 1,020,00

So the 200mm radiator would be about 76% more surface area.

The problem is that I don't have enough space.

The side fan protrudes into the case, and putting a radiator on there would basically prevent me from installing non-low-profile GPU because of the power cables.

So why not just replace the case? I know you said it wasn't an option you wanted to consider, but for the price to get the 2 rads, tubing, and a block you could have got a new case + a large tower cooler for the money spent.

Again, theoretical planning.

I like to plan ahead, so in case I do end up getting a 5900X, I have a plan.

Also I can't find a case that has 4 5.25" front bays and 4 3.5" HDD bays.
