Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

So i just found out mishimoto made aluminum radiators for the protege, yet for 300 bucks, it's kinda steep to pay for a radiator for such an old car. Still nice knowing they have an option for it. Yet they don't have a radiator for a damn e39 m5. only the e46. upset.

I meant I was hoping mishimoto would make one, but seeing one here, maybe that could work. Steep price, but hey, it's an option, and it's got an oil cooler too. Though the website does state the oem cores are already good,

Fuck it, maybe i'll just stick with coilovers for simplicity if it's gonna constantly fuck up my alignment. Although there might be some way to maintain alignment on air ride idk. i wonder how many alignments guys who daily air ride cars get.

Pickup trucks got airbags, talking 3/4T and 1T and they put 550K+ miles on them. So they are durable!

Don't you usually get more issues with the air lines than the air bags?

Air lines gotta be plumbed properly.

Think about this, 18 wheeler trucks have air bags!

I know a good shop in my area that are air ride experts. They have years of experience of plumbing up air lines and whole systems and whatnot.

Yeah as long as I get reputable brands that use thick quality rubber bags, I shouldn't really have that many issues with the bags like cracking at the creases and seams and stuff.

idek how people enjoy beating up a car like that... if you like the car, take care of it.

Ok got a question for you guys, I'm looking for a tow car, won't be buying for a few months but at the moment the top is a Ford Territory, but its stupidly heavy on fuel as I'll be using it as a daily. Anyone else got suggestions. (and please don't suggest USA only Trucks) I am not interested in a pickup/UTE as here they are so heavily marked up. Ideally looking for a SUV with solid towing and cruise control :P

If that's all you are planning to tow, then a 4runner (i think it's called the hilux surf in NZ) will do you fine. Towing capacity i believe is 5000lb (2300kg) for a 2001+ model. so you should be fine with a focus ST and a single car trailer.

Toyota's are nice, but how hard is it to find parts?

On the flip side, they are fun to drive when they're not broken. Downside, they break often enough that I seriously wonder who fabricated the myth of 'German car reliability' and whether they had ever owned one long term out of the warranty period.

Original VW's and Porsches... They are pretty hard to beat. My dads 81 911, will roar to life instantly despite sitting since September 270K kms, no and the thing runs and looks mint (as mint as 38 year un-restored car could be). Talk to any old time Porsche tech and they will tell that they rarely do/did suspension work aside from upgrades on the cars.

My 944 not as amazing but, with oil changes and changing out 30+ year old hoses and wires and seals the car still drives and feels as new. (200k km (family owned since 80k).

My Mini cooper on the other hand... 135k kms and it needs major work every few months it seems. My familys (x5 based Range Rover) is the same thing. They both use BMW parts and both suffer from being over complicated (less so on the mini though) and expensive pieces. BMW 200X-05 x5's and 5 series used a big watercooled alternator. Now alternators break and and whatnot - but a new one was well over $1000, rebuilt was $800 + plus install which was not as simple as a regular alternator job.

truly an un-required piece of equipment that makes things cost more to fix and over complicates things.

As terry said, a 4runner will do, you're gonna be running it hard though. If its an auto put a fat transmission cooler on it, change the filter, change the diff fluid. I don't know what all you have over there. Something like a Tahoe would be better but I dont think you got those?

I just suggested a 4runner because they're somewhat common down under, under a different name, the hilux surf. and they had the option of a diesel that could help in towing powe a bit, though those addons like a tranny cooler and maybe an oil cooler would come in handy.

And even though they don't sell them domestically, there are a few importers that import NA trucks and SUVs for RHD use. One place I saw had a fully loaded Sierra Denali for sale too, though it wasn't cheap for sure.

@warmmilk @MEC-777 The HKS / Andrew Brilliant carbon GTS800  makes its first shakedown runs at Tsukuba, and while not the top-speed monster that the GTR was this looks like it will excel on the twistier circuits.

Diesel would be nice. Though single car won't need it. Main thing is having enough weight to not be pushed around by the trailer, and stopping power.

That is true, guess I might just have to get a Ranger or Amarok

also, the Territory is off the list, Chatted to my mate from Ford, says its just not worth it the amount of constant maintenance you have to do to the subframe.
