Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

That's cool on the boost figures, I had thought about it and can't say I have ridden in anything newer (10 years or less) with a stock turbo or still at stock settings.  It's hard to compare my cars turbo setup with anything newer as well just to how much engine design and fuel systems have advanced in the past 30+ years.  I have found it funny since owning it that like anything in this world the myth and legend very rarely lives up to the reality of it.  The '87 Grand National was touted as the fastest car made in the USA back then and you get wrapped up in that legend.  Once you own one you realize that fastest for 1987 wasn't a very high bar to reach and that I could lose a race to several types of modern bone stock v-6 powered four door sedans depending on driver and conditions.  Here's a picture of my engine for the fun of it.

Around the late 2000's there was a real surge in performance.  Look at a 1999-2010 Mustang 4.6: 260-300HP.  2011? 420HP, give or take.  Same story with the Camaro: 2001, 330HP.  2010: 430HP.

Plus the 80's were still coming out of the smog choked engines, so we were still figuring out how to make power again.

R5 3600, 5700 XT, AX370 K7...  and that's plenty for me.  If you ignore the masses of other parts I occasionally put together and laugh about.

Holy balls, that thing really need some cleaning xD

I've wanted a GS500E for a while now because I thought they were under the 35kW limit for the A2 license. Turns out they're rated at like 38kW

pepehands-0-cke.jpg

Also, a Yamaha XT660Z from the 90s is rated at 35.3, so, yeah, fml xD

Mine is registered as a 25kw import

It's def not restricted 🤣

Im dreading having to change my chain snd sprockets on my bandit lol (pic above) due to all that type of gunk lol

It wasn't all that hard to get out, but it sure took a while. Really nice to have it done :)

Here is how I had to leave the bike because the weather turned way wayyyy to bad to ride(storm winds, snow and near freezing air temps). Also found that when I started it with fuel in it it started spewing gas everywhere. I suspect the floats were stuck, gave the float bowls a few knocks and unpunched a vacuum line and it both fixed my petcock back to normal function and stopped the fuel problem as far as I could tell :D Those carbs deserve a proper rebuild though 😅

So I got to work on my GS500E, needs a new chain and sprockets and I decided I might as well do pads and break disk while I'm at it.

Put the bike up on the center stand and got the rear wheel out real quick. Took the cover for the front sprocket off and found hell on earth. I dug out about two big hands worth of gunk with a rubber/sand texture from there:

IMG_20200411_134445.thumb.jpg.1707034a5381d18b3c1868e9f5a65390.jpg

IMG_20200411_134522.thumb.jpg.561005d25410c9e10746892af0b99388.jpg

Sprocket was also almost just gone, looks thin enough to bend with your fingers on some of the teeth.

This is after the clean:

IMG_20200411_152518.thumb.jpg.34cc5c73b8f231c10df3e7f279114600.jpg

They are all really bad pictures, sorry about that...

Glad I cleaned that out, should have swapped chain and sprockets a long time ago. Chain was actually in alright condition but the sprockets are GONE.

Going to tackle removing the rear brake disk and rear sprocket, they have been soaked with penetrating oil and left over night so hopefully they will budge today, they really didn't yesterday. Going to get the ugga dugga on them if I can find a 14mm socket for it, otherwise it's going to be just a massive breaker bar :D

You would be surprised at how nasty it gets behind the front sprocket cover. All that chain lub gotta go somewhere. That front sprocket of yours looked like a throwing star. I have seen them missing teeth and chains break and wack the side cover and some instances the case, which is not a cheap fix. Every bike owner should do regular maintenance to their chain and, cleaning and proper lubrication goes a long way, as well as getting to inspect those components often. I would recommend at minimum every 500 miles to clean and lub the chain, obviously the more frequently it is done the cleaner it stays and more life you get out of it.

    Cheers

The PSI figures mean something too me.  I didn't know what a modern turbo charged engine runs for boost.  I was just curious to see if the more modern designs were able to get a few more PSI without running into issues.  I know on 93 octane pump gas I can't push more than 18psi due to a combination of compressor inefficiency and high intake air temperature.  My motor is over 30 years old and it wouldn't take long before it came apart if I push it past 18 with the existing components. That's why I backed mine down to run at 16psi for my daily driver boost pressure.  I would figure more modern compressor designs, more efficient intercoolers and better fuel injection systems would allow for safer and higher inlet pressures.   Was just looking to see what other people have experienced with their cars if they were boosted.

So my ambient air temp sensor is now hanging down infront of the intercooler.

Going to be fun trying to finagle that back into position without taking off the front bumper. I guess if I have to remove the bumper it will give me a chance to clean the intercooler. Half tempted to remove the front mesh to expose the intercooler.

There’s two cycle, 4 cycle (most engines), but there’s also diesel, turbines, rotary, and sterling.

if you are talking about two cycle it only takes in fuel on cycle 1 so every other cycle, and a four cycle engine only takes in fuel on cycle 3 or something.

In terms of the standard 4 cycle production engine it goes like this:

Intake, Compression, Ignition, Exhaust.

Also, more easily remembered as Suck, Squeeze, Bang, Blow.

2 cycles combine Suck, and Squeeze into the first cycle, and Bang, and Blow into the 2nd cycle.

Effectively, a 2 stroke engine has a power stroke EVERY revolution of the engine.

A 4 stroke engine has a power stroke every OTHER revolution.

Rotary and Diesels are more fun to explain.

3M dual-lock is great for mounting LED strips like those, it's what holds a road way toll device to the windshield for decade at a time! It's semi-rigid and the adhesive is tenacious, but being velcro-like you can take the strip off if you need to for working on things behind/above them.

One of the odd things about Minnesota is the incredible level of detail hobbyists get up to over the winter.  It’s always awesome when spring comes and the shiny elegant and imacculate  classic cars bloom on the roadways.  It happens with a lot of stuff too.  Cosplay is one. (Yes, I’m that kind of dork.  I’ll even mention armoring because it happens there too)  Knitting, seed art, all kinds of stuff.

There’s going to be some pretty pretty things at the end of this.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Not a 'sotan but I'm gonna get some black stuff for my black car and make it extra black lol. Turtlewax Hybrid Solutions has a black polish with acrylic fillers and a black sealer with ceramic I want to try them both. It's a pretty mild polish so it won't eat my 20yr old paint.

I've been working on a few rally in car videos lately.  If you are interested in rally check them out, they're something I enjoy working on after the rallies are complete. It gives me a chance to get in some video editing practice, although it is pretty tricky to come out with any reasonable video while you're focused on co-driving.

The latest video I put together is this one.  I'm co-driving in a Mini Cooper S.

They rally pretty good I understand.  Light car, good suspension, powerful engine.  The mini copper ruled dual solo for a while.  I don’t know if the 53 is the turbo or the older supercharged version.  The supercharger did well but wore fast.  It was common for people that raced them to have one or two spare super chargers just lying around because they had to be replaced with some frequency.
