Is there a reward program for contributors in the forums

Mat1926

We get free advice from the users here which most of the time help us to resolve issues, is there a way to give them back something in return?!

I am thinking of something like Amazon public wish list!

Most people are on the forum because they like discussing technology. Helping solve issues is fun for some people, as well as provided a good way to build knowledge and experience. Rating posts as informative and selecting best answer when you ask a question is enough.

I don't get any monetary gain from posting, but I have 18,000+ posts helping with problems because I enjoy it.

Agree with the other sane people, having a thanks dude or similar is good enough... it's nice to get that even :D

And not everyone knows everything, despite how some people act, lol - and as @Oshino Shinobu said it's a good way to at least supplement your knowledge/experience by reading some stuff you might not be versed in but are interested in.

I personally have been upgrading/building PCs for over 20 years now, but 5 years ago my memory started being affected with my disability,

so 20+ years experience - bad memory = shit if I know sometimes xD

I think if they just add their public wish list to their signatures, than some who can afford might give back something...

No worries mate, I am over it really, life is what it is and we have to get on with our lives. Thanks for the kind words though, appreciate it :)

It's a nice idea to give back, but I think the forums could get nasty if there was some reward system... I mean I like to think that people would be better than that, but know that it would devolve into chaos :(

Sometimes i wonder if this forum is even alive...

Besides we dont make him rich by consuming resources. There are no ads on this site next to videos with sponsors that we all likely have seen anyways. Forgot to permit this site ads from my ad blocker  :P

I can actually see people abusing this to try to grab expensive or useless things they would otherwise buy or would resell. I like the idea For me i use my amazon wishlist not for that but a price gauge when to buy or to see if i really want it. I do the same with my Steam account, not so much a wishlist but a "i'm too cheap list", most recent example is Farming Simulator 17 at 50% off.

A  paypal.me link would be far better, but i can still see it going sour as people will start expecting then possibly leave if no one pays up. If someone said "Need help willing to pay for best answer" then sure else nope.

I don't know, I don't really feel like we should monetize advice? I can just see how it would cause more strife than good because people are greedy. Picture this:

A kid saves up his money for an entire year in order to buy a ballin' gaming pc, but when he puts it together, it doesn't post. So he goes online to his favorite forum and asks "Can anybody help me get my computer to post?" hoping somebody knows what he did wrong. Within 10 minutes he gets six replies saying "I know what you did wrong, I can tell you if you pay me." But the kid doesn't have any money left, so he's out of luck.

I'm not saying its a bad idea, if you're grateful to somebody and want to repay them then I have no problem with that. But doing it too much, or making it a built-in function of the website might be detrimental to the community in my opinion.

DELETE! DELETE!

EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE!

Silence will fall.

It's enough to get rep or best answer. Or even just know that I helped to solve the problem. You get help from community, not individual users. You can give back by helping community. By helping others in their problems, by reporting bad behavior and stuff like that, by doing quality posting.

I've always felt like rewards are cool, but steer kind of in the direction of "what do you mean you don't have time to help me? I gave you.. Whatever, you owe me an answer!"-kinda stuff.

But that could be my paranoia speaking.

There's risk that if there would be something with value related to giving advice, whole forum would end like TN&R is now. Every answer would need to be regulated to actually be accepted for reward program. Otherwise everyone would be spamming bad/less educated/partial/unnecessary answers to be ones to be rewarded. In TN&R reward is to be featured in WAN Show. The so-called "Recent snipers" already practice kinda same thing where if you can't give answer within 5 first posts, they don't bother posting, even if issue remains unsolved.

  • 4 weeks later...

I feel like this would be highly situational and basically up to the person giving to find out stuff.

E.g. If I particularly wanted to reward them beyond a reaction and/or selecting Best Answer then I'd PM the user and perhaps pay for something with a bit of value that they might like or just thank them for helping me out.

But that would really be Super Rare.

The easiest way for someone to reward me on LTT is by reacting to a post.

If you really feel like rewarding me in a financial way or otherwise I'm not gonna say not but I won't encourage it either.
