monitors come with multiple ports. i still prefer dvi but multiple ports allows non standard multiple gpu setups and multiple pcs to share a single display

Tbf the aftermarket cards should have a DVI on, still far too common to dump altogether.

Yah HDMI, not display port. I see a total of a single HDMI on this card, that would be one out of my three monitors. Then I would need two adapters from DP to either DVI or HDMI

Display Port to DVI/HDMI adapters are less than $10, though.  Unless for some strange reason they're excessively priced where you live.

Its VGA that needs to die off first. Dual link DVI can do 1080p 144hz with no image quality loss over the cable, which is more than enough for the vast majority of displays

Well, yes, I suppose so, but I'm of the mindset that it already has long ago since when was the last time you saw a video card with that output on it?

What do you mean "no gain in replace"?  There's 3 DisplayPort connectors and an HDMI...

Also, DVI and HDMI both need TMDS clock generators, one for each TMDS signal needed.  An HDMI port would require one, dual link DVI would require two, one for each link.  So that's three clockgens right there.  Dropping DVI-D both removes the additional complexity of adding the clock generators as well as the clutter on the back of the port.

 

And if anyone has legacy needs, that's what you have active DP to Whatever adapters for.

I suppose that still has the internal circuitry necessary to produce the VGA signal but at least they're not going out of their way to include a port (and in the process sacrificing cooling holes) that no one needs.

I have to ask how they can advertise a reference design as being a "limited edition"?  This kind of indicates the only difference is trivial like a bonus toy in the box.
