Powerful GeForce GTX 1080 Custom Models Pictured – Feature Better Cooling, PCBs and Overclocking Capability Than Founders Edition

We already covered the teasers and a few reveals in our previous post but looks like our friends over at Videocardz have a bucket full of leaks when it comes to custom GeForce GTX 1080 models. In fact, we are surprised by the fact that most AIBs will be announcing these models tomorrow along side the reference models but the bulky coolers and high quality PCBs will definitely come at a price close to that of the FE (Founders Edition) that will be selling at $699 US. Following is the list of all the custom models which have leaked on the web:

ASUS is launching a new ROG STRIX graphics board based on the GeForce GTX 1080 graphics chip (GP104-400-A1). It was evident from the teaser photos that ASUS was going with a triple fan design with a aggressive look cooler shroud that features their Aura LED technology. ASUS has been showing off many products this gen with their Aura technology and it all comes down to user preferences whether they want to use the LED illumination on their cards or not but it’s a nice feature.

 

The ASUS ROG STRIX GeForce GTX 1080 is like a heavy weight boxer that takes up 2 slots on your board but offers a totally custom built design that is made with ASUS’s Auto Extreme technology to deliver much high quality components. This allows better stability and overclocking capabilities to end users. The card has two stacks of aluminum fin blocks and comes with a backplate on the back. Overall, the card looks great and we already expect this to break a few records.

Since the Maxwell generation, ZOTAC has really beefed up their cards with aggressive looks and PCBs. This time, ZOTAC has went the same route with not one but two designs that stand out on their own. The GeForce GTX 1080 AMP! from ZOTAC is an impressive card featuring the IceStorm Fans with Carbon ExoArmor, PowerBoost, FREEZE and Spectra. We can see that the PCB uses high quality components such as the Power Boost 2.0 capacitors which allow stable supply to the core when running under overclocked conditions. The AMP! model features dual fan design with dual 8-Pin power connections.

The AMP! is great but wait till you meet the AMP! Extreme which is a behemoth of cooling and power. This card has a triple fan design and a sexy PCB (same as the AMP!) which reads “Push To The Limits”. I guess ZOTAC will be aiming this card at extreme enthusiasts given the high-end PCB design that is suitable for breaking records. Both cards have the reference display ports configuration of HDMI 2.0b, Display Port 1.4 and DVI-D.

The pictures from HotHardware reveal that the EVGA cards still feature a single 8-Pin PCI-e connector so we are guessing that these boards might still be hindered in terms of overclocking performance as did the FE reference models but since this is a custom board, there may be some technology implemented by EVGA to solve this as they do make some of the best overclocking boards such as KINGPIN series.

 

Damn those AIBs designs look dope af.. Especially the EVGA ones and the Asus one. So tempted to buy one

EVGA wins hands down.

 

I hope all the white pieces are easily removable, there's just enough that if you painted them all the card would look really good in custom colors.

Time to stalk some cheap 980Tis.

Asus went one step above everyone else, it looks like even their box has RGB LEDs. But what worries me still is that 1 8 pin on the EVGA SC, while GB and ZOTAC went with dual ones.

The ability to google properly is a skill of its own.

I guess it's a matter of opinion but I think the STRIX card is the best one here. EVGA, in my opinion, took a step back.

i like them but EVGA's the best and ASUS has the biggest improvement aesthetically from previous versions though i do prefer the previous EVGA coolers over these

I say they're all too noisy and the FE looks the best at this point.

 

(noisy as in too much going on aesthetically, not actual sound)

I kinda like the Stix 1080, but that ACX 3.0 has got too much going on. I mean it kind of looks nice but still way too much going on.. I was kinda hoping for a similar design to ACX 2.0...

The STIX isn't that bad, the Zotac and Asus ones are the best but the EVGA one. I'm very perplexed whether I hate it or like it.

 

Shit AMD, Polaris 10 better be good and hopefully their AIBs have better coolers than Nvidia has so far...

I went for Zotac with my 980ti and I could not be happier. Seeing it overclocks better then the MSI Lightning and stays extremely cool at 65C full load

Asus went one step above everyone else, it looks like even their box has RGB LEDs. But what worries me still is that 1 8 pin on the EVGA SC, while GB and ZOTAC went with dual ones.

Well, 1 8 pin delivers the same power as 2 6 pins in newer power supplies; it's a total of 225W including the PCIe connector on the motherboard.
