Will Zen fail now that Uncle Jimmy left? :(

KarateHottie93

Yup boys, Jim Keller has left the building for those who don't know :(

He was the head honcho of Zen. What happens with it from here?

It's okay, this will not affect AMD. In fact, since Jim's presence.. honestly there has not been A LOT of improvement. With a fresh mind, comes fresh engineering and way of thinking. Companies do this shift all the time, lead architects come and go. Part of the job.

Good luck AMD, on finding a better, stronger and fresh mind! :D :D

Well, let's just hope he isn't replaced by some stupid asshat that will ruin the business.

Dennis will replace him and make a 256core Opteron for only the low price of $99,999

256 / 18 = 14 1/3

14 1/3 x $4,500 = ~ $64,500

Eh. Not a huge price gap.

Development of Zen is mostly done, so it shouldn't really be affected. Keller left AMD 3-4 years before "his" K8 design hit the consumer market, and that still worked out very well for AMD.

Jimmy is probably done with it's job so AMD probably doesn't need him anymore.

Nice comments everyone. With this being so new, speculation is obviously all we can work with, time will tell. Honestly I think AMD is going to be just fine.

Intel best hopes they don't... Cause with AMD gone the x86 license is useless, both AMD and Intel have to be in existence in order for Intel to continue to make x86 CPUs.  Additionally, because the same laws don't apply to x64, when AMD goes so does x64!

Please spend as much time writing your question, as you want me to spend responding to it.  Take some time, and explain your issue, please!

They won't. Monopoly laws will start to kick in.

Do you know how exactly a Monopoly would work in this case?

No, because they will slowly break apart and explode. Until they ditch enough weight to become profitable or find themselves in a new market. They probably have too many financial backers who don't want to see the company shut down and will put money into AMD, but that not to say AMD may have major changes in next few years.
