Pet peeves when it comes to people building PCs

  1. When people have $1300 worth of video cards hooked up to a single, $130 1080p TN panel
  2. When people spend no more than $50 on their case in a high-end build.  A good, well built case is a great investment that should last at least 10 years so long as the ATX standards don't change.
  3. Non-Modular PSUs
  4. "Nvidia is just better than AMD" bullshit fanboyism
  5. Over-spending on storage.  The prices are constantly falling so you're wasting money by buying more than you need today when you can wait until tomorrow and get a better deal.
  6. Speaking of which, buying SSDs on tight-budget builds.  Put that money towards a better GPU.  You can afford to wait on storage performance and drop in a cheap SSD months down the road when you've saved up for it.

Call me insane, but SSD only builds. I can't stand builds without at least one HDD. I like builds that have at least one HDD, and only Seagate, nothing else.

It's a very general point and you see it a lot on here. You see a lot of people asking questions because they are building a rig for a "friend".  The questions they ask are so basic that they really have no business building anyone a PC. They have no grasp of basics so where do they get off building a rig for someone else? blind leading the blind.

I see your point, but you have to start somewhere. At least they are giving it a try and reaching out for help before smoke is pouring out of the rig. I love that more people are getting into builds, it keeps the field and community growing

Really? I would hate to make it without. This may actually cause you pain, but I still have a worn out intel sticker most of which is unreadably at this point, on my laptop. Actually, that may be where teh compulsion came from.

 

 

People who say you need a minimum of 16gb RAM really drive me up the wall.

I'm sorry, but I have the attention span of a squirrel, and if that causes me to keep 100 tabs open in Chrome, I would like to have the RAM for it. If I were making a $700 build, I would still take the budget to put the extra RAM in because I can and will honestly go over. Why should I change how I use the computer when I could just have more RAM and faster access speeds for my other tabs?

 

I also hate not having a drive that's 1tb+ and having 1 drive. Dunno why, but it bugs me to have just one drive. I guess I just like the ability to prioritize and organize files and programs and have them load faster because I marked them as important by placing them on the fast drive. My Ideal system has a 400gb 750 drive, a 1tb SSD, and then like 4gb of space. I'll probably never go over the first 400, but screw it, it just feels so right.

Tip to those that are new on LTT forum- quote a post so that the person you are quoting gets a notification, otherwise they'll have no idea that you did. You can also use a tag such as @Ryoutarou97 (replace my username with anyone's. You should get a dropdown after you type the "@")to send a notification, but quoting is preferable.

 

Feel free to PM me about absolutely anything be it tech, math, literature, etc. I'll try my best to help. I'm currently looking for a cheap used build for around $25 to set up as a home server if anyone is selling.

 

If you are a native speaker please use proper English if you can. Punctuation, capitalization, and spelling are as important to making your message readable as proper night theme formatting is.

 

My build is fully operational, but won't be posted until after I get a GPU in it and the case arted up.

People who spend tons of money on their builds and try to justify it as if they actually needed that kind of performance when they don't.

Be free like me. I spent a lot of money on my build and have no qualms telling people I bought that hexacore cause im shallow and want awesome parts I won't use to their full potential.

Also I only have an expensive machine to play Solitaire.

Guys who get a locked CPU and, (A) (this one is the least bad) Put them in a Z series board, ( B ) put expensive cooling on them like H100is and NH-D15s, ( C ) Put them in a really expensive motherboard. I saw this guy the other day who had a i5 4590 on a sabertooth Z97 with a Dark Rock 3.

Oh boy, youre not gonna like this one: I am running a 4820K on a Rampage IV Extreme with a NH-D14 - completely stock. No overlcocking whatsoever. Actually even undervolting sometimes.
