The PPD being wild after a restart is 100% a bug in the F@H client, it goes insane if you reboot your system mid work on projects to the point I had to code the client to disable sending me PPD updates to the DB unless in a certain range of reality.

You let those slots run until they are completed and refresh the window and they will become normal, but they got some issue with the reward system calculation on their side if you reboot mid work unit.

Otherwise, I'm going to have to add more debugging ability to the client regarding why your GPU is not being detected by the client and why project etc. is not either as those are just givens on both my test systems in FF or Chrome on Window 10 & 11.

While they have not changed the version number of the client... just wondering, when approximately did you switch to it?

Are we talking v7 or v8 here?  I know on v7 my PPD often seems to halve if I pause/resume/reboot, but it kinda makes sense if its calculating based on credit + current WU completion time, which gets extended by such actions.

On v8 I don't know about the current build but earlier ones some CPU WUs wouldn't even report a PPD at all.

Well I slept for 14 hours, not a great sign but it means I will definitely be awake for the update this evening.

Good to see everyone getting going, have to say the chart for the teams looks nice.

Talking about V8.

You reboot your system running V8 and what was slots with normal PPD suddenly are reporting 1000X PPD an finish times in seconds... that then take the regular amount of time to finish / get normal reward.   They have bug where they are calculating something in memory and it's not getting saved and re-loaded on reboot until the glitched WUs finish then it starts acting normal again.

As for CPUs... it's not that they don't report PPD so much as V8 seems to take FOREVER to start estimating the PPD... like in some cases in my testing on low thread allocated WUs it might not start reporting until it's been running for 10% or more of the WU which is an eternity if you are trying to reverse engineer if something is working or not.

Is it just me or PPD estimations on the client side is extremely higher than reality? I have been trying to battle this for a long while now and I cant figure why.

2 clients estimate (GTX1660S and GTX1080) around 2.5m to 3m ppd. In reality I barely get 300k points a day. Any ideas?

You should be at 2.5-3m PPD with those cards. Can you check to see their % usage and power draw via Afterburner or HWinfo?

I have had the power limit at 70% on both cards ever since I started folding earlier this month, that 900K ppd is WITH a RTX3070 in the mix too!

I just maxed it out power limit on both cards but I previously tested this too but it didnt result in any noticeable change.

Nope, 1660S runs on W10 baremetal install. GTX1080 is PCIE passthrough to a PVE W10 guest. Both are performing as they should otherwise in gaming and encoding tasks.

I think I've been overtaken for the first time ever today 🙂. oddskj seems to be getting about 5m PPD, well beyond the 2m PPD my secondary rig can manage.

I might be experienced, but I'm human and I do make mistakes. Expand for common PC building advice, a short bio and a list of my components and other tech. I edit my messages after sending them alot, please refresh before posting your reply. Common build advice: 1) Buy the cheapest (well reviewed) motherboard that has the features you need. Paying more typically only gets you features you won’t use. 2) only get as much RAM as you need, getting more won’t (typically) make your PC faster. 3) While I recommend getting an NVMe drive, you don’t need to splurge for an expensive drive with DRam cache, DRamless drives are fine for gamers. 4) paying for looks is fine, just don’t break the bank. 5) Tower coolers are usually good enough, unless you go top tier Intel or plan on OCing. 6) OCing is a dead meme, you probably shouldn’t bother. 7) "Bottlenecks" rarely matter and "Future-proofing" is a myth. 8) AIOs don't noticably improve performance past 240mm.

Primary is sitting out folding atm, although I'm getting tempted to get it started whilst it is idle (want to know what it can do)... although I'm concerned about keeping my flat livable and keeping my energy bills reasonable 🙂

You joined the wrong event for that

I might be experienced, but I'm human and I do make mistakes. Expand for common PC building advice, a short bio and a list of my components and other tech. I edit my messages after sending them alot, please refresh before posting your reply. Please try to be clear and specific, you'll get a better answer. Please remember to mark solutions once you have the information you need.

He/Him

I'm a PhD student working in the fields of reinforcement learning and traffic control. PCs are one of my hobbies and I've built many PCs and performed upgrades on a few laptops (for myself, friends and family). My personal computers include 3 windows (10/11) machines and a TrueNAS server (and I'm looking to move to dual booting Linux Mint on my main machine in future). While I believe I have an decent amount of experience in spec’ing, building and troubleshooting computers, keep in mind I'm not an expert or a professional and I make mistakes.

Favourite Games of all time: World of Tanks, Runescape, Subnautica, Metroid (Fusion and Dread), Spyro: Year of the Dragon (Original and Reignited Trilogy), Crash Bash, Mario Kart Wii

For anyone interested in keeping it competitive/seeing who is creeping up in production on you throughout the day I have put the teams 24 Hour Rolling PPD ranks and Monthly Team Ranks pages in to event mode highlighting the users signed up as listed in the Google Doc.

These are ROLLING PPD ranks so they change during the day as the system finds updated data from F@H.

THESE ARE NOT OFFICIAL EVENT RANKS AND WILL NOT LIKELY MATCH OFFICIAL EVENT RANKS.

THIS IS DUE TO THE ROLLING UPDATES VS THE OFFICIAL VALIDATED ONES PUT IN THE EVENT BLOG POSTS DAILY.

PLEASE DO NOT BUG THOSE RUNNING THE EVENT ABOUT THESE RANKS, THEY ARE JUST FOR FUN TO SEE WHO MIGHT BE SNEAKING UP ON THE REST OF US WITH MERC ARMIES "BORROWED" 4090s ETC. DURING THE DAY.
