LTT Official Folding Month 2021!!!

Go to solution Solved by GOTSpectrum,

Well here we are guys, the end of the road for folding month 2021, thank you all for getting involved and I hope you guys have a good christmas and new year.

Remember if you are wanting to continue talking about folding, the event or anything related you can go the the folding community board

@TVwazhere @Spotty Could you please lock the thread and move any further posts after this one to the folding community board.

Something is odd today. On a normal day I'll have 105ish WU's, but so far today I have 158 WU with 1/3 of the day left!

I have always noticed my GPU PPD significantly fall when CPU folding. Doesn't matter the CPU (2700x, 3700x, 5800x, 3900x, 5900x) or the # of threads being used (-1, 4, 9, 12, 14, 18, 22). For getting max PPD, it has never been worth it to CPU fold because the drop off in GPU isn't made up by the CPU. Unfortunately CPU folding is only for the the act of Folding the WU's and the betterment of mankind!

Not much of a Gamer….. But I have thing about F@H that may be a little over the top.   See my builds here

22 hours ago, Schnoz said:

It's been getting some Unicorn-ranked WUs, so it's doing around 1.7M PPD with a small overclock.

The second you do that those unicorn WUs will vanish 🤣 They only exist to taunt and tease but never please.

Been the least of my problems tbh.  pfSense had a really weird morning, it said my VPNs were offline with 100% packet loss, but they were connected and changing servers did nothing (pretty much impossible all servers were borked and there were no reports as such at AirVPN).  It also started blocking all IPv4, even the WebUI which has a hard-coded rule to NOT be blocked. 😕  But, IPv6 was still working fine.

When I rebooted it, things got even weirder.  Unbound was refusing to issue DHCP to my IoT VLAN until went back into the interface settings, saved them and applied changes.  Its all been stable since then as far as I can tell, just a very weird experience.

Actually come to think of it, maybe it IS a sheduler thing as I seem to recall CPU folding does NOT cause this issue on Linux.  Though I haven't tried on the 5950X due to Win11effectively killing that idea, you can't use the proprietary driver with secure boot enabled and I don't want to risk borking my Win11 boot.  That is supposed to be me ONE Windows only PC.

Router:  Intel N100 (pfSense) + GL.iNet GL-X3000/ Spitz AX WiFi6: Zyxel NWA210AX (1.7Gbit peak at 160Mhz)

Welp, why did I use iron fittings in the cooling system for my Folding Station😪

The cooling fluid was green and clean🟩 four weeks ago and now it is full of rust particles...🟫

This is going to be a nightmare to clean once folding month is done.

So MS decided, "Hey why not never warn this guy when his student credit is at 50%, 75% and 90% utilized like we've always done and now just tell him when the credit's over...."

So yea, I'm now expecting a significant drop in ppd.

I gathered that. But how with out my passkey?

you'd think passkeys are tied to the account name, but they're not. I don't know what they're tied to, tbh, or how they verify the "10 WUs before QRB" rule. As far as I can tell, it seems you use a passkey ONCE for a particular username on any computer, and then it becomes an 'authenticated' passkey and it works for any combination of usernames and computers. I've folded for my friends (and once, a dogecoin wallet!) before with my 'own' passkey.

I can confirm this, there is also the issue of when folding servers kick off and give out multiple passkeys... there are three passkeys for my email and each of them show different point totals on the client, but folding stats and EOC show my combined total

I've never let my laptop's GPU stay at even 70c before this, but it's what's needed for the fold!

Why is your CV, PL, TL and Fan speed greyed out?

Are they not adjustable on that laptop?

Power and temperature limits are not adjustable, core voltage is adjustable through the volt-freq curve(Ctrl + F on Afterburner) and CPU and GPU fan speeds are independently adjustable through ASUS's software. So I manually set a frequency and voltage that meets my desired power draw (or doesn't exceed it by too much) to get below a certain temperature, fans are at 100% and I have an external cooling pad underneath.
