Note to self and others,
No matter how confident you are don't play with your network infrastructure during an event.
Lost 1000s of points due to something stupid that I'm still trying to figure out why it did not work

windows update did that to a machine. for a network driver. so fun on fixing that. which in turn also gave a corrupted amd gpu update....

I've told my second 1080 to stop folding...

Gotta be done for financial reasons... i'm hoping the rest of my hardware can keep folding for the rest of the event but I have a few friends running for me too so hopefully there will be something being produced for me throughout the rest of the event

I hope the concerned road safety authorities put a swift stop to this, if anyone tries anything of this sort. Although it doesn't make economic sense to risk a Tesla over crypto mining (solar panels are significantly cheaper and you get free power for far longer and with much greater convenience), I can already see the TikTok-era social media peeps trying something like this just for the attention.

Dogecoin would like to have a word with you about volatility. That said it would make more sense to to use ACIS miners more than anything, so while using a vehicle of any type is not a smart idea doing so still could reap rewards more than the car itself.

does folding@home give foldingcoins? are these foldingcoins worth anything? im so confused.

I think you have to join a team for it, but no F@H does not reward financially natively.

https://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/team_summary.php?s=&t=224497

Don't expect to make money while doing so either, but it might reduce your power bill when selling. However I don't do it so I don't know what even a top tier card pays out at.

Well this explains why I've been feeling ill this last week...

Tested positive for covid, going to get gene sequenced tomorrow so will see what variant I've got...

I gotta say it's kinda scary being immunocompromised and having covid

Hopefully nothing more than a common cold. Hope you get well soon, also hope the rest of the family is safe as well.

where will they get the power to charge it from? does Tesla have a 110V power socket inside the car?

Connect an appropriate converter straight to the battery.

There are people completely stripping down and rebuilding Teslas or taking the guts to put in other chassis, this is not a big deal for one of them.

I loved watching Rich do this as one of the first guys on the internet to, it is incredible how complex something like a car can be!

Yeah I've been working on them for over a decade now. They incorporate just about every major facet of technology to accomplish the features, cost, and efficiency that you'd expect now-a-days.

I keep thinking I'm going to have to build my own car if I don't get one soon.  I refuse to be required to be connected all the time, and to have my data/usage sent to somebody.

Yep, was definitely the 2400G that went bad, rather than the AsRock B450M Pro4.  5700G is going fine...waiting on all the Winblows updates (going on 3+ hours now) before I give it a good benchmark burn in and info collection for undervolting with Ryzen Master before switching over to Linux.

You have a smartphone don't you?  Personally while I don't like it, I understand there's little I can do (outside of lobbying for new laws etc) so I just try to disable every little bit of invasive aspect of tech I own outside of stuff that keeps me safe (like Googles Timeline).

I own Xiaomi phones and I know they collect data (all of which I disable) and a lot of it but most people think it's only Chinese brands that do it, Sammy does so does Apple, esp if you use any of their services...

Nope.  No cell phone at all.  😄

People can call the home and leave a message...or drop by.  If I'm out and about with people, others don't need to interrupt that. 🙂

It is awesome.  I get to actually experience the people, places, and things that I go out to see. 🙂

I had a phone when I was an IT consultant, and also while I tested some fruity prototypes while working there.

Immediately ditched cell phones again once I left.  SOoooooo much better not to be tethered to apps. txts, and calls all the time.

Doesn't hurt not to have a cell phone bill either.

I have a cellphone... I refuse to answer it tho (outside of work calling, mostly due to the pandemic) and even let my inbox max out a few times, so why do I have one with North America wide calling and international text? Data oh and it's still cheaper than most Canadian cell bills, almost all my family/friends communicates via FB Chats or other means, many have my phone number but... Nah...

I love my phone and talking to people on it so much there is just a beep and no personalized message saying who it is etc lol... (been like that for 10+ years) So many redials till they figured it out... I tell people don't call, I won't answer, text, emails are 50/50...

I'm notorious for putting my phone on Airplane mode 🤣, got yelled at several times by several people for it too.

I would love to ditch my stupid cell sadly can't laptops are too bulky (data dongles are stupid) and it's just that convenient to have... I use it for email games payments banking etc...

I hate my banks web interface slow and incompetent almost faster to walk to the bank to bank, but their app? Totally different. Now if only there was the easy way of blocking ads and all the other lovely features computers have...

It's also why I don't invest so much into a phone, in 30 seconds you can lose it, break it, or it shits its own pants on you at no fault of your own and you lose everything. It's also why I keep everything I want to not lose away from such a frail stupid device.

Fun!  Turns out when you let a Ryzen 5700G PBO up to around 220 Watts it'll push about 350k PPD and occasionally burst to 4.6Ghz (normally sitting around 4.3).  I don't think the motherboard will let it support that for long, which is I think the "current" limitation...so it won't stay set like this...but it is staying just about 80°C overall while doing it, and 73°C on the GPU portion.  Better AMD Prism stock cooler (from a 3900x that somebody now runs a Noctua on), but with an open case and multiple case fans going straight through it too, so if I wanted to really mess with it on a better MB and actually good cooling, there's definitely more in there.

Once it is done the 2.3 *DAY* GPU WU, I'll smack it with linux and undervolts/underclocks for efficiency and the like to build it back into the server it is meant to be, generally pulling about 50'ish Watts, rather than the PBO it is running for an hour or so to do a proper burn in test on the CPU.

For the first time during the event I've been able to get a decent amount of my hardware to cooperate. I've got my main rig folding, the office rig folding, two Dell Precision T3500s folding (1 with a GT 740 and the other with the R9 270), as well as a couple small machines here and there. Not too bad considering the hardware issues I've dealt with thus far. The GTX 680 machine is still down though...

16486 is hammering my 1660Ti mobile. Making it draw ~95W when it's only rated for 80W, poor thing keeps fluctuating in clock speeds like crazy and PPD may have dropped too. @BondiBlue have you noticed what projects are best-suited for this card? I can't set a power limit, so I need to choose something that's more efficient.
