Team red or green?

Team green... I did try to get it running last week but after 6 hours of trying I have up and rebooted windows as I didn't want the downtime during the event

I will be taking some time off from folding after the event due to financial reasons anyway so I won't be in any rush

16486 is hammering my 1660Ti mobile. Making it draw ~95W when it's only rated for 80W, poor thing keeps fluctuating in clock speeds like crazy and PPD may have dropped too. @BondiBlue have you noticed what projects are best-suited for this card? I can't set a power limit, so I need to choose something that's more efficient.

I haven't paid attention, sorry. I haven't even sat down in front of that computer in almost a month.

Fun!  Turns out when you let a Ryzen 5700G PBO up to around 220 Watts it'll push about 350k PPD and occasionally burst to 4.6Ghz (normally sitting around 4.3).  I don't think the motherboard will let it support that for long, which is I think the "current" limitation...so it won't stay set like this...but it is staying just about 80°C overall while doing it, and 73°C on the GPU portion.  Better AMD Prism stock cooler (from a 3900x that somebody now runs a Noctua on), but with an open case and multiple case fans going straight through it too, so if I wanted to really mess with it on a better MB and actually good cooling, there's definitely more in there.

Once it is done the 2.3 *DAY* GPU WU, I'll smack it with linux and undervolts/underclocks for efficiency and the like to build it back into the server it is meant to be, generally pulling about 50'ish Watts, rather than the PBO it is running for an hour or so to do a proper burn in test on the CPU.

Lol my prisim is in izac currently. A tad overkill but man it cools a 2600 great. I’m looking at getting a 5900x for calculon and then moving my 3900x to izac. But I may wait for the next ryzen at this point.

I can barely move today from pain, can't even sit for any length of time, I've just spent most of today in bed

Foldatron is really unstable, software wise, think I'm going to take her offline until I'm feeling comfortable enough to try and see what the issue is.

The ranks will be posted today, luckily @cbigfootdoes all the hard work so all I have to do is a little copy and pasting.

I'm doing almost everything I can to keep rising the rankings. I now keep my P100 on almost 24/7 (as a datacenter card, it was meant to do this), and I've set its fans to almost 100% to keep it from throttling during warmer days. I might consider repurposing The IT Club's Q6600 test bench that was my original F@H rig for this event to have my 5700 XT fold as well, since I removed it from the single PCIe x16 slot in my desktop for my 1660 Ti, which nets a higher PPD. Den's generously sending me one of those crazy 3000 RPM Noctua IndustrialPPC fans that do a whopping 7.62 mm H2O of static pressure among other things, which I will definitely put on my P100 when it arrives.

Lol i have 3 of those 3000 RPM industrials on Bender lol...they are the PWM Varient.  i run them ~2k lol

Well that's curious, I stopped CPU folding on the 5950X and the 3080 PPD went up by almost as much as the reduction.

I then tried with more cores and the 3080 PPD dropped by more than I gained.  Seems there is some bottleneck here that makes CPU folding pretty much pointless on this box.

It can't be temperature as it gets LESS airflow if the CPU is idle as the case fans are tied to the CPU temp.

Of course it could be the estimate being way off, is there a way to see the actual points per WU short of monitoring the log?

ive done  some folding on a 2990wx but i notice that the gpu wu(when no cpu folding task) is using way more cpu now. on any type of wu.

Yeah, there's a much bigger demand for CPU with the new CUDA WUs. Last year, the advice was to leave a core(not a thread) alone for CPU folding - that's worked on all my NVIDIA xx60 series cards, and seeing as the 3080 is a much bigger and faster GPU, it's reasonable to assume that the 3080 needs more CPU horsepower. Try using like 4 or so cores and see how it goes.

Oh? I just checked and can confirm, my 6-core 10750H is sitting pretty @ 14% usage feeding my 1660Ti mobile at desktop idle. Have you heard about the hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling setting on Windows 10? That makes a big difference too.

Desktop 1 : Ryzen 5 3600 (O/C to 4Ghz all-core) | Gigabyte B450M-DS3H | 24GB DDR4-2400 Crucial(O/C to 2667) | GALAX RTX 2060 6GB | CoolerMaster MWE 650 Gold

Desktop 2 : i5 10400 | 32GB DDR4-3200(@ 2667Mhz) |  EVGA GTX 1070 SC 8 GB | Corsair CV450M

on my old i5 3570 system i have to leave 2 cores free to feed my 1660 and my r3 3100 was sitting 48% feeding a gtx 750ti and a gtx 980

I mean 8 threads should be nothing on a 5950X.

Did- Did- you seriously name your rig "God"?

Wow.

Also, isn't there something about the 5950x that causes it drop ppd on the CPU, something to do with the ccxs?

I'm not sure tho

Hehe I explained in an earlier post how I named my top two rigs based on their performance.  God being the fastest PC in the house and Jesus the next fastest. 😉  Originally there was only God but when I built a dedicated gaming rig I ran out of ideas and it seemed kinda ironic to name them that way.  Maybe Lucifer would have been better?

My WiFi is named on Star Trek though (as the NAS homepage is themed, obviously), my IoT network is United Federation of Planets (used to be LCARS, I changed it as I named my NAS LCARS as it made more sense) with my 2.4Ghz Voyager (as its long-range) and 5Ghz Defiant.  I did have an Enterprise, can't remember how I ended up no longer using it, I think it was just the complexity of adding new networks concurrent with the old before withdrawing the older ones.  Confusingly the AP that broadcasts Voyager and Defiant is called UFP.

My 4G hotspot however is called Cloudsdale (as I used to take it to meetups, will let people guess what kind).

Oh, that's cool! I named my most recent phones after Halo warships - the rose gold iPhone was called In Amber Clad, and the black iPhone is Shadow of Intent. (Tried carrying that over to PCs as well, but that didn't go so well. xD )

Maybe I'll name my car "Forward Unto Dawn". Maybe. 🤔

I'm seeing people talk about customizing which threads on a CPU do folding; mine barely gets me points anyways, could anyone point me to a guide on how to modify this? I actually use my PC while folding sometimes without doing anything intensive, and a bit more CPU horsepower would be nice for that.

Looks like Igor is having power issues again, or just wants to keep things interesting. Production way down today, so I'll get the lead back even if temporary. Just trying to get my hopes up before taking the lead again.

Most all mine are named after either characters from Futurama or locations from Futurama. 😁🤣. Majority of the list is directly below in my signature. Good news. Scooty Puff is finally out of the hospital. G5 5505. Should have it in a day or two.  Possibly. I hope. Maybe. 😂
