Can you pass a practice A+ cert exam?

Mooshi

http://www.proprofs.com/certification/comptia/a-plus/exams/HW-E1/exam.shtml

Let's see how LTT members handle outdated questions regarding floppy disks, somewhat irrelevant questions about pin counts and some IRQ numbers. :P

I hope you also know about laser printers in great detail.

Such outdated questions..

Is the real thing just as horribly outdated as the practice tests?

Yeah, i did something like this before. Full of old hardware, questions specific to certain types of hardware (error codes) and opinions (the option to select that firewire is "very fast") :P

I'm sure everyone's going to be buying new computers with windows 2000 and 1 pentium 4 processors with a PSU less than 200w, and helping people who back up data onto a floppy disk every night :P

Yes, it is. If you ever get employed as a PC technician, you can't expect you'll be working with $1,500+ gaming rigs. The unfortunate reality is you'd be working with ancient machines that should have been put down years ago and, yes, lots and lots of laser printers.

That's true, although i wouldn't  expect an exam in the current day to be talking about things from 10-15 years ago as "current".

Wahahahaha, I feel less bad for failing it since Linus did! A lot of questions on that one practice exam is relevant to tech that was around when I wasn't all that into PC tech yet. I don't need to remember no stinkin' pin count to tell the difference between laptop memory and desktop anyway.

I got 55/80 without looking anything up.

I guess I failed.

Hah! I guess we have about the same knowledge of 2003 tech.

Got 49/80 without looking anything up. It indicated that I passed. Totally not a new 80% or higher requirement.
