That was actually out of stock faster than Nvidia. Every website is already sold out

Honestly, I think it's great to have competition but I do think Nvidia's offering is more compelling to be honest. 

 

It'll be great to have the two neck and neck for the next few years hopefully!

@GabenJr did you guys note any tripping on transient sensetive PSUs that you saw using the 3080 and 3090?

 

even if the wattage is lower, the older Vega 64 and Radeon 7 were prone to tripping such PSUs at the same claimed Board Power as the 6800 xt

Maybe varies with countries, most in UK never saw the 3080 in stock at launch. I did have 3070 in my basket but lost it when website died.

 

 

Anyway, is the tldw (in general, I skimmed the video) pretty much confirming the rumours, 6800XT is ball park comparable to a 3080 for gaming if you exclude RT, DLSS and SAM. Drop back up to about a tier if you have RT. Need to look at more written reviews for detail, and so many variables to consider now...

 

Edit: If we compare this to CPUs, I'd put it as somewhere comparable to Zen+. It catches up in basic areas, but still falls short on features.

Haha, the ending bit about being able to purchase these was hilarious.

Some of the largest retailers in Canada didn't get any, and they're not even accepting back orders like they did for the Nvidia cards, so they really have no idea when they'll get some, and aren't expecting any anytime soon. RIP.

RT shouldn't be considered for at least another 1-2 years imo, so if one is wanting to keep said card for longer then yes otherwise no, still green feels the way to go but the fact AMD is crawling up their rectum that could change next year.

I agree, but considering how close they are today and the fact nVidia needs DLSS to even compete in some cases not including RT, while they might not be willing it could still happen, even if it is by a tiny margin. 2020 has been a shitty year for the world but an interesting one for tech, and 2021 will be even more interesting. If AMD can figure a way of gaining even a tiny lead against nVidia all they need to do is undercut them and do bundle deals with their CPU/GPU, at which time most gamers won't complain, assuming AMD can stay ahead of Intel.

 

Plus what I've seen AMD products love going on sale for better prices than either Intel or nVidia, so while MRSP is high doesn't mean it won't become a good deal once stock has been rectified.

A lot of people are definitely still complaining about AMD stock. But I wonder if there is any difference between them and Nvidia stock rn. Correct me if I am wrong but stock usually disappears within minutes on day 1 launches for most products, it's how quickly stores re-stock that is really telling IMO. And so far we're like a month into RTX 3000 launch and it hasn't gotten better at all. 

I mean I remember buying the GTX970 on the first week of launch on Newegg and it took like 4-5 weeks to come, limited availability on launch is nothing really new.

Igors's Lab tested that, they found out that power spikes are nothing to worry about because of high-quality filtering done by the reference cards. Igor stated in his review that one should factor in about 400 W peak power usage for a 6800XT. He measured higher transients too, but they happened on such small time scales that the PSUs wouldn't have problems with them.

You're definitely right that these launches are worse than usual, and COVID isn't helping for sure. Another thing to keep in mind is that Nvidia stock is so bad I think that's created a lot more demand for AMD that wouldn't have existed normally. There are a lot of people who couldn't get a 3080 that were now trying to get a 6800xt that normally wouldn't have been. I don't think this is something AMD could have planned for.

There will definitely be some games where AMD wins and Nvidia gets beat and vice versa. What I meant is that Nvidia will not likely become like AMD was, competing at the low end/midrange

Also I think Linus should come back and re-review this once AMD has also improved their drivers in say 6 months time.

 

RT shouldn't be considered for at least another 1-2 years imo, so if one is wanting to keep said card for longer then yes otherwise no, still green feels the way to go but the fact AMD is crawling up their rectum that could change next year.

Completely disagree. It's in a lot of new titles, so it absolutely should be considered. Especially seeing as it'll be another 2 years until we see a new graphics card come out. I don't foresee them closing the gap in a year. Cards come out every 2 years unless they're just little refreshes. 2022 will be a more interesting battle for sure, though.
