LTT Official Folding Month 2020!!!

Go to solution Solved by GOTSpectrum,

Luckily when I said it was almost done, I really meant it.

For the last time in 2020, ladles and gentlespoons, here a blog post.

And with that said, it's a wrap! Thank you for everyone getting involved, if you'd like to continue talking about folding why not head over to The Folding Community Board

Water cooling gambit is looking good now.  The loop isn't leaking, and there's only a 30-40% chance I bricked several of my components the first time around.  Time will tell.  Going to run the loop for a few more hours before firing her up.

And shut the hell up about the giant solar flare lookin' jump from the res to the top video card.  I don't have a huge stock of fittings and I couldn't make the bend without crimping the tube.

EDIT: Pretty sure I slagged the motherboard.  Don't even think it's because of the water; it was in pretty rough shape to begin with.  I think I just fiddled with all of the connectors too much and something finally came loose.

looks awesome, i'm a sucker for soft tube builds and all my folding systems are under water!

in my experience, when building 24/7 load scenario waterloops there really is no tubing like EK's ZMT. with all other tubing i've had permeation bad enough that i had to top up the reservoir every few weeks, but i recently switched my main rig to ZMT and it hasn't lost any fluid since!

Doesn't look like ZMT is available in clear, so I'm less disappointed that I didn't get it (I just got EK's duraclear tubes) :) For whatever reason, I have a hard time accepting custom loops with opaque tubes.  I don't like opaque coolant, either, but it's so pervasive that I at least associate it with custom loops :P

I'll make a note to keep an eye on coolant levels.  I'd like to think I would have anyways, but knowing that it's something that may require frequent (i.e., more than once every 6 months) attention is helpful.

Doing the this was refreshingly fun to do, I'll have to admit (assuming it all works once I fire up the actual computer)!  Glad these folding events motivated me to finally update my main rig, giving me a spare rig that I don't mind accidentally immersing in water so I'd be comfortable doing water cooling.  It's been a desire for a long time, but I did NOT want to put my main rig at risk for my first build.

@Finalcountdown you're most welcome!

as for the software issue, make sure you're using fah-installer_7.6.13_x86 because it's more stable than what's on the alternate downloads page.

Yup, UE49KS7580 here :)

The feet on the sides were a reason for the choice, that way I could 3D print replacements to sit it lower on my desk.

I like the design of the feet on the 2017 or 2018 that my Mother has. The Power and One Connect cables are routed through the legs themselves and give it a much cleaner look. So if you ever do 3D print new legs,  I'd suggest that feature be included.

I also like being able to have the legs far apart, or bring them closer to the center. That actually saved me from either wall mounting , or buying a whole new stand in order for the legs width to fit on top.

I bought a wall mount for mine over a month ago to mount it partially above the mini fridge because with the new bed desk I got, I'm unable to see the bottom 6" of the TV without sitting up at a 90° angle. And if I'm going to do that, then what the hell is the point of having this whole setup on my bed? lol

to bring a bit normality into the fight and be on the other end of @Den-Fi ;) I may break the 100M points barrier until the end of the folding "month" :D

considering rocking only a single gpu and cpu and starting the event with just 10M points I guess that's a win. And that's why my main rig won't be shut off or used for anything else than folding :D

Kinda strange that you won't benefit directly from it but as long points rise faster than if you do something other with it, my mind wants to maximize the output no matter what

You might not benefit directly but you have to remember that you are doing real medical research. You could be the person that processes a magical WU that leads to a break through that could literally save the lifes of thousands of people, me included. No contribution of time and effort too small.
