I mean you can get 4k 120fps if you just turn off all graphic settings, 2080Ti can push 4k60fps on max settings, I would imagine it could get better frames if settings are dropped too.

I believe they said they were seeing fps around 120 not that they were seeing it in 4k. They did mention it being capable of 4k though. Again it's probably 1080p 120hz. Honestly 120hz in general is a huge deal. I have been saying for awhile that high refresh rate is what stops consoles from truly competing with PC.

It is a huge deal for console to get over 60 fps. Console players have had to deal with peasant frame rates and having a console that is capable of 120 fps is huge for closing the gap between what can be done on a PC vs a console.

I do wonder how many people have a TV with faster than 60Hz refresh rate, though. 120Hz TVs aren't cheap, and most console gamers I know don't have late model high-end TVs.

I know a few people with monitors for their console. Also why would a console player use a high refresh rate display if they can't use it? One sorta has to come before the other.

SSD is really nice, and supporting 8k TV's doesn't mean that the games would run at 8k, but 8k movies for example. The Xbox One S for example supports 4k, but that only means movies and etc, not gaming.

How do you come to the conclusion that Vega 64 has 4 times the performance? It's about 2x. Over 2x in flops but I guess roughly 85% more fps on average.

 

We don't know how they come up with 4x though. I doubt it's flops or frame rate. It's probably marketing speak for compounded numbers across various metrics.

Every generation they have had a pretty abysmal CPU architecture to run on. You cant really hit those higher fps when the CPU will simply limit them from doing so. Zen 2 is 100% capable of fixing that issue. 4k at 120hz I would have to say is probably not possible in a legitimate way but they could probably do some upscaling shenanigans to trick some. Honestly I am super interested in this console generation. Might buy one for my livingroom.

However, as for the Price of the Normal Console:
We can assume that both are in the 399€ ballpark, maybe one upping the other with 349 or even 299€ and selling at cost.

But probably not a 499€ device...

Hell even the PS4 PRO was 399€...

And that's what I paid for it (with Horizon Zero Dawn in the Box)...

We have to wait and see.

It might be possible that they increase the Shader Count to 3072 or so.

But only time will tell, in 1,5 Years there are rumors of  better/cheaper manufacturing technologys from TSMC...

Don't expect anything large, 7nm+ or 6nm neither are going to be that big of a cost saving. A lot of cost saving will just come from the fab process maturing and existing designs that can be leveraged.

It's the same for the console. Nowhere are claims for gaming at 8k, only support for the resolution.

"Support" means it can connect to an 8K display and output video (And perhaps scale the UI and natively render the OS in 8K).

 

Don't expect games in 8K (Aside from perhaps Pixelart indie games).

Speculation in the grapevine is that the next iteration of RDNA will be like Zen 2 was to Zen; that Navi introduces a lot of new things that brings things a good leap forward but with a ton of areas that can be worked on that there wasn't time to do in the timeframe given. Of course that's very early speculation and there may be nothing to it. It might be that raytracing is taking up all their time to develop so there is nothing else new when we get there. 

 

I do agree that we're unlikely to see a massive chip. Navi, while being on 7nm, seems to add a lot of silicon despite only being a 40 CU design meaning there isn't any gained area for CUs compared to a 36 CU Polaris on 14nm. So I think they might do more CUs than 40 but not a whole lot more (if at all). We should also keep in mind that there will be raytracing hardware on there taking die space. I also assume Zen 2 is a bigger core than Jaguar. It all has to fit on one die unless they do a chiplet design which I don't think they will.

I call bullshit on all high-res high FPS claims. The Xbox One X was a 1080p60 console. This might be doing 4k60. Certainly impressive but not 8k120.
