Ikea gaming products appear

Jtalk4456

I definitely want a review for this, like they did the Amazon basics one

https://www.fastcompany.com/90357746/ikeas-experimental-new-collection-looks-like-no-ikea-furniture-youve-seen

They seem to be focusing on ergonomics, which is good, the question is if this will all be cheap junk or not

Edit now that I'm home:

Ikea and Unyq have just announced a trio of new ergonomic products geared toward the 2.2 billion gamers worldwide playing an estimated 14 billion hours of video games every week in the more than $130 billion video gaming industry.

Due in 2020, and only available through an upcoming Ikea/Unyq smartphone app

So the product so far are a wrist rest, Keycaps and a mouse bungee

The mouse bungee will depend on the price. It's not bad looking but it's not the only one on the market.

the Keycaps I'm curious about. Supposedly this is all in the name of ergonomics, but I can't imagine flexible Keycaps being better

The wrist rest it's hard to judge without feeling it and seeing the price tag.

this is all stemming from their idea to make a chair in the shape of your butt for ergonomics, but the chair has yet to be released.

Quote

The differentiator is that it’s customizable. A wrist rest from Logitech, Razer, or Belkin is a one-size-fits all accessory. Ikea and Unyq are promising to manufacture gaming gear specifically to the specs of your body. The smartphone app will actually use the phone’s camera to scan your hand and wrist for its cuff. Meanwhile, the bungee and keyboard keys will have all sorts of personalization options within the app including their slant, softness, and texture.

This could be interesting, depending on h how well they do. It will still depend largely on the price either way

I don't think it's the smartest idea to have a separate app just for 3 products with a 4th on the way.

The second is a set of vented keycaps that sit atop your keyboard and promise to “make the keyboard feel like a physical extension of a gamers’ fingers.”

That sounds like an extremely uncomfortable description. It does however seem interesting for people who might sweat a lot during gaming sessions. God knows I needed grippy keycaps when I played my first ever competitive Counter-Strike: Global Offensive game as a solo queue.

I'm interested in knowing how fast those key caps shred your fingers

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

Re: OP's hidden pics because I can't figure out how to split the quote up in this editor.

Wrist Rest: THE CLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAW

Keycaps: They look like they could be in a Dr. Scholl's commercial and don't look comfortable to me.

Mouse Bungee: This one makes me curious how it would work. The bungees I've been have usually been far less solid looking and much more springy. This looks more like a mouse trestle than a bungee.

Hm, interesting design choice. Reminds me of airless tires like their inspiration.dims?quality=85&image_uri=https%3A%2F%2Fo.aolcdn.com%2Fimages%2Fdims%3Fcrop%3D1600%252C1067%252C0%252C0%26quality%3D85%26format%3Djpg%26resize%3D1600%252C1067%26image_uri%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Fs.yimg.com%252Fos%252Fcreatr-uploaded-images%252F2019-06%252F16e10b90-870e-11e9-b6ca-0deb973a1ef9%26client%3Da1acac3e1b3290917d92%26signature%3D5b12ea45e7e0224a33b5b4d117e260fb156952c2&client=amp-blogside-v2&signature=3c7aed9c41d79055761e64f13d6ff8f2d85318fa

But yeah, not fan of keycaps those will just get dirty faster and harder to clean. Wrist rest, I've seen better implementation really for like arm with gliding magnets.

The mouse bungee may be ok depends on weight and how stable it is. Though doesn't seem to be the best design.

So how long until those caps make you bleed? I'd assume they're MX-compatible, but those do not look comfy to type on.

Not gonna lie, those keycaps look cool.

But if they're rubber, aren't all that stuff going to make your hands sweat more?

16 GB HyperX DDR4 @3000MHz

Asus Prime X370 Pro

I guess it's so hand is elevated off the table, so it's more ergonomic. But it also looks like handcuffs and moving your mouse with that on, won't be easy.
