Male Millennial? - That's a scamming

TL;DR:

Research from Microsoft has indicated that gen z, millennials and males are the most vulnerable to tech support scams

Quotes/Excerpts:

Quote

In 2016 Microsoft commissioned a survey to help determine the impact of tech support scams. Expanded to 16 countries: Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, France, Germany, India, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States. Microsoft’s survey results,...show that gen z, millennials and males are the most vulnerable to tech support scams. These demographics, the results show, engage in riskier online behavior such as visiting torrent sites, have a greater familiarity with technology companies. Hurt by overconfidence in their device and web expertise. The highest risk to gen z, millenials and males are pop-up ads/windows, while millennials and males are the two demographics most likely to lose money. Telephone tech support scams, on the other hand, are the one area experienced more by older consumers, than by younger internet users. This supports the potential link between familiarity, trust, and ultimately, susceptibility to scams. Millennials and gen z were also found to be more trusting than older generations of reputable companies making unsolicited contact.

My Thoughts:

Microsoft has yet to say how many people from each age group took the survey. I may be safe to say that with more Millennials and Gen Z online than other demographics, it makes sense in overall responses but not ratio wise.

I mean maybe.. it's hard for me to relate as I follow and keep up with tech news so I generally know what's good/bad/stupid/a scam...

I Imagine anyone who doesn't at least have a general knowledge..is technically "at risk".. regardless of what demographic they are in.

Who still clicks on popups?  Come on Gen Z and Millennials... how are you not using ad blockers.

I can believe it.  We think of tech support scams as those phone-based frauds that target older people, but when you're a headstrong young man who has little real-world experience yet thinks he knows everything... yeah.  And young women learn about the dangers of the internet all too quickly thanks to harassment and stalking.

Interesting.  I think a lot of people, including many in that demographic, would have guessed they were the least likely.  I guess it comes down to this:

Edit: Actually "tech enthusiasts" is probably unfair.  I think there's a large number of people who maybe feel comfortable with computers but aren't actually "into them" and actually don't have any more skills than those who we think of as tech illiterate, and that is who this should reflect, and who is falling for these scams.

exactly this, kinda what I was thinking, in addition to those that know a little about what they're doing are much more dangerous than those that are completely clueless from a functional level.

You should replace the "most people" with "people who ask if the $28 gtx 1080ti on wish is a scam"

Spoiler

Then the top marker for high confidence would be for "people who are informed it is a scam, but chose to buy it anyway because they still think they have a chance to get it, and if they get scammed think that PayPal will protect them"
