Prepare your hype engines, CD Projekt Red will show an unnamed RPG at E3 (that's almost certainly Cyberpunk 2077)

Prepare your hype engine friends, this game has been cooking for a very very long time, all the way back when Witcher 3 was released. However it's been confirmed that CD Projekt Red will be announcing an RPG game at E3 in June. This RPG game is strongly believed to be Cyberpunk 2077 since leaks have been coming out thick and fast from CDPR themselves. A new trailer will be revealed at e3 according to even more sources.

Quote

A Polish website said at the beginning of the year that Cyberpunk 2077, the long-awaited new RPG from the Witcher folks at CD Projekt, will be shown—and be playable, behind closed doors—at this year's E3. That event is not much more than a month away, and it's starting to look very much like the rumor is true.

CD Projekt Red is definitely going to be there: It's listed as a "participating company" on the E3 website. More telling is the Map Your Show listing, which has the CD Projekt Red entry as a role-playing game for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One. That excludes a surprise Gwent extravaganza, then, and I'll go out on a limb here and say that it's probably not The Witcher 4 either.

According to sources at CDPR the game will have a playable demo at the show for press and journalists. According to the E3 site, it appears the game will be announced for the Xbox One, Playstation 4 and of course, PC.

One very big source of hype came from this, a conference when he was questioned at the e3 reveal.

CD Projekt Red has declined to comment on the the rumour of course.

Please CD, a release date is all we beg for.

Yeah, it's definitely been in the pipe for a while. I'd say that I wonder what took so long but the rumors of Mismanagement at CDPR aren't going away so there must be some truth to them.

Have the next gen consoles even been confirmed by MSFT and Sony yet? Or is that rumoured.

I for one am very hopeful. Usually I would approach such trailers with considerable caution, but Cyberpunk 2077 is in relatively good hands. And yes, it is true that CD Project Red does not have the best track record in terms of employee treatment, but I hope that such a thing will not be a substantial influence on the game.

Dare I say that Cyberpunk 2077 will be as much of a quantum leap in terms of technology and story telling as oblivion (although I have grown bored of that game as of late)

IDK why people are crying so much about the long dev time.  CDPR release AAA games made on 1/4 of the budget that western studios do and do a better job of it.  Would you prefer that they churn out the same generic, rushed and buggy messes that has plagued AAA gaming culture for the last x number of years, or release a quality product?

Last time I checked Poland is considered part of the western world. :P

Ohh I can't wait to see this game. Love the Witcher series, their approach for games and ambition for Cyberpunk 2077. Specially being sci-fi game I'm very excited to see how they made that universe breathe.

I don't see the development time as that unreasonable. In end 2011/start of 2012 they only began pre-production. Then they did work on it but they could only devote full resources to it after releasing Witcher 3 in 2015.

And this is a game which is as big and complex as Witcher 3, so the dev time seems reasonable to me.

If they hadn't been hard at work on Witcher 3 then yes you could say it's slow.

I'd like to object, but given how much of a downgrade Witcher 3 suffered from it's infamous E3 trailer to the released product yeah: I basically consider all E3 promotional material cinematic and prerendered and not at all indicative of the final product.

CDPR has to play the game but I would rather wait for a few days after release and not buy into marketing hype since they have shown that while they're capable of producing a great product they're not at all immune to the bullshit this kind of marketing creates.

So far the only one that lived up visually was Doom. id being old fashioned, they upgraded it from e3 and fixed the color filter that people complained about.

Oh, I guess bioshock infinite looked as good as the gameplay trailer. Too bad the game they showed was entirely a different game.

...battlefront "1"? EA did a pretty good job delivering visually there too.

At this point I wonder how much money is wasted creating cinematic trailer and fake gameplay for games (or higher quality assets for just one area they demo) in order to make these deceptive game showcases?

It still disappointed: it let us know that it could have been even better, they just had to compromise for the consoles. It reminded us that again: we rarely get full experiences because developers cannot produce a game of this scope without making concessions to the consoles. Scroll forward a few years and EA is promising not to release single player games at all and I think many publishers will follow.
