Anyone recommend a good budget server

Go to solution Solved by Electronics Wizardy,

Do you care about power and noise?

How much storage do you need? 300 doesn't go that far if you want lots of HDDs for storage.

Look at used rack servers if you want 1u. Something like a dell r620 meets those needs but is hot and loud.

by budget, I mean under 300$. I would be using the server mostly for small jobs like small-scale virtualization and as a NAS for some personal files as my home server, I probably want a 1u package but I don't know what server to pick, and servers are kind of new to me and I am having some trouble. all and any help would be appreciated!

edit: I need like 4 storage drives, It must be rackmount, and I don't care about power or noise or heat.

does it need to be rackmount? because a recently decomissioned office desktop gets you a long way.
