and this but again i dont know what it is. has some bad capacitors tho.

Thing with the card in it looks like it may be a board from a satellite TV and DVR box, possibly. Card is kind of like a SIM card that tells the box what channels you're allowed to view.

Tan colored board with bad caps looks like a power supple for *something* but I don't know what.

The card basically tells it what channels it can and can't play AFAIK.

And it probably doesn't have any uses. Especially if it's got bad caps.

The feed is encrypted. The card contains decryption keys for the channels you are allowed to watch with the subscription you purchased. If you change to a different channel package you'll get a new card that corresponds.

I saved a bunch of computers from a scrap pile at school, most notably these 2 XP systems (there are still some core2 systems floating around on campus, xp machines were recently replaced.)
This ones case really caught my eye…

image.thumb.jpg.1618c40de91f5674d75bbd17b133cecf.jpg

Sadly it won’t turn on, and there are a few dead caps - I will attempt to get it running again.

image.thumb.jpg.cf3381964231ff07edd5e00da150b7c9.jpg

Then there’s this one, a Pentium 4 HT system that’s twice as heavy as it looks. It turns on but HDD is making sounds it shouldn’t. Don’t know clock speed but it has an 80gb Samsung HDD and 1024 mb of ram.

OMG,  I used to have this exact case.  Although I painted gray flames on the side and hot glued a skull to the front vents. Even wired red leds for the eyes that blinked with hdd activity.  I wish I still had that thing.  The CPU cooler I had sounded like jet engine though.

Oh the hours I spent playing Unreal Tournament 2004 on this thing.

Starting refurbishing work on the MSI PC. Today I cleaned it with an electric air duster, disassembled the whole system, blew off every part again, tried to remove the cooler for 10 minutes and finally got the whole thing apart so I could solder those new caps on and replace the psu (tested it with the it departments tester and it didn’t give anything on +12v).

And the p4 system I picked up along with this one boots into xp but it is password locked and no one can remember it.

You can use Hiren's Boot CD to modify the SAM file or enable the "Super Admin" account which'll allow you to create another admin account.

Thanks for the tip! I’ll try this in tomorrow’s free period.

What GPU you planning to put in the AGP?

No idea. Don't have experience with or much knowledge of GPUs of this era - I probably won't be adding any GPU as it has integrated graphics, probably a Rage XL, and integrated audio.

Super easy to bypass the password by just resetting it, you'll need a bootable Linux media and swap out a file for cmd.exe so you can call that up with admin access and change the password by clicking for ease of access stuff. Easy to do, easy to find on Google.

Integrated will give you a display out but I think you'll have to watch the resolutions it supports.  I think you'll be limited 4:3 aspect at least

@Mel0nMan

utilman.exe, delete it, paste a copy of cmd.exe and rename it to utilman.exe and when you reboot you click the ease of access thing for login and boom admin command prompt.

I have one of those HP machines. Mine is a Pentium 4 630. 1gb of ram and a 40gb WD drive. I did put an Nvidia 8400GS in it. Was the only SFF pci-e card that i had.

Back in the days where notebook CPU can be swapped and upgraded easily, I do notebook upgrade a lot:902692441_20210903_1720591.thumb.jpg.4b18b82a8772e4d72a5ddaf6f8fedab1.jpg

I do also have some MXM GPUs taken out from old notebook, I just forgot where I placed them...

And these should be the oldest CPUs and RAM I have right now:

20210903_172755.thumb.jpg.dd54ab37473538af6d3b7b8b41c0ccf1.jpg20210903_011529.thumb.jpg.51b858cc0ebe90893a392b65b702bd7f.jpg

No they are not ebay 2nd hands, I kept them from my old PCs for "future use" 🙄

But then I just didn't keep any parts in my first PC which was a 486SX, hmmm...

Anyone got any idea what case I could put this in that would really show it off and a transparent power supply?

E2F7CD91-3B53-4E74-A99D-5E7FD3FCC6EA.jpeg.09a1a420af0aebc77c4ad2e33874e3da.jpeg

I’m thinking cooler master elite 130 but with the plastic side panel mod so you can see into it.

It has to be an itx case that has room for a longer than normal itx board, for example a fractal design nano S has a lift of sorts towards the front of the case and the board wouldn’t fit.

Either of those would be pretty appropriate.
