Got a H370 and i5 8400T inbound to build the new folding rig. Same low power use, 2 more cores to work with. Being that it's the bottom barrel i5 8400T it might not even use the whole 35W running FAH.

Looking at ARK it appears the 8400T only supports bi-furcation x8/x4/x4 and not x4/x4/x4/x4 so you might be limited to 2 or 3 GPUs connected to the PCIe x16 slot with a 4x m.2 adapter.

I fixed the problem with H370 PCIe bifurcation and lack of enough PCIe slots.

What options does the BIOS show for Bifurcation? When I looked into this back in 2019 the only Intel Chipsets that supported x4/x4/x4/x4 were x299, The information was vague and it was only by looking at the support pages for Asus Hyper m.2 cards was I able to discern which chipsets might have bifurcation support to enable running 4 GPUs off a m.2 NVME adapter.

i5 8400T with 2 1660S and turbo off is using about 8W currently around 50% CPU use. I need to get a riser of some kind to get the 3rd GPU in there and then mount it somewhere safely. 3rd slot is too close to the GPU, there would be no airflow to the middle card. I need a riser with a 90 on the end but I need it the other way around from this so I can mount it where I want to mount it.

spacer.png

Edit: I think maybe the reason my old Haswell i5 system was at high CPU use was I had the priority set higher in the advance settings? Didn't occur to me until now, I did that so points wouldn't get nerfed by windows background processes.

So you want an extension with the cable coming in from the Left rather than the Right as pictured (from the front of the case)? ADT R33SL if you want 16 lanes of PCIe3.

Holy Guacamole, $30 shipping! $22 for the riser is completely reasonable but that shipping is nuts.

Found the exact same thing on AE for under $30 shipped. Phew!

Yes, the shipping from China is expensive but they are the manufacturer of a fairly high quality product and the site is useful to get an idea what is available and the part numbers. Their products are re-sold by many other vendors but I've yet to find a North American reseller that carries the whole product line.

Welp...I did it a month earlier than I thought.  I did leave the folding off for most of the month, despite the cold, but I finally did it.

Just did a(n almost) full rebuild, excluding case, psu, and gpu. With the old parts, I rebuilt my old folding rig in my old case with my *old* RTX 2070 Super. Not sure if such an ancient card can handle folding in this day and age, but I figured that maybe it would allow me to FINALLY break into the top 50.

Hi all,

Just got a 4090 and set it up to fold. But I am only getting 1.5 to 2 mil PPD while I see others having numbers like 10 mil, 15 mil or more.

What could be going on? Are there any settings I should look into?

Thanks in advance for your answers

The PC is a 3950x with 128 gigs of ram and win 11.

Since when can a little GT 1030 manage over 3 million PPD?!

No, the GT 1030 isn't actually doing that much work. That would be insane for a 30W Pascal-based card. What's happening here is FAHControl getting confused about which GPU is actually in use. This was caused by the Nvidia graphics driver partially removing itself from my computer for no reason at all, and once I reinstalled the driver F@h started. Once I restart the computer it'll report things correctly, I just thought this was a bit amusing.

I had a weird issue the other day. Opened folding on a system I'm stability testing a new CPU for my main rig. It had passed 48hrs Prime95 stress so I figured it was mostly stable and I'd try some CPU folding for a few days or a week as part of final stability verification. Had FAH running, default browser is FF and opened the usual FAH page, had hwinfo running to monitor voltage and temp, afterburner open to set the GPU power target down to 80% on the 1650 super in the test system, and FAHcontrol because I had enabled CPU slot prior to folding and hadn't closed it yet. I opened chromium browser but as soon as the LAR folding page opened the PC just restarted. When it came back up FAH would not open. I reinstalled and kept data, still would not open. Reboot, same. Uninstall and reinstall but clear data this time, it ran, but as soon as I opened LAR page it crashed the same and I had to uninstall and reinstall the same. 3rd time it worked fine but that time I waited longer to open LAR page, several minutes.

Anyone else has this?

that's super weird, especially since the LAR page shouldn't be any different on the system than the normal web UI.
