I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

I filled the SS up with $4.25/gal for premium in east bay on my way to work yesterday. 14mpg at that pricing hurts; the M3 isn't much better at 19mpg. Which I also need to fill up.

ha. my GF loves trucks. So much so if we get married, I'll probably be hard pressed to be able to daily a truck instead of her.

It’s not that bad. I saw a Diahatsu or something SUV that looked like that, except it seemed squashed. Must have been modeled after a 1990s RAV4, except lower.

it's this stuff that makes me want to just give up on most of my daily driver ideas and just get another old corolla like I used to have

only cost a few grand, did 40mpg on the highway, was reasonably comfortable, and never broke. the only thing I remember legit breaking on it was the windshield washer fluid pump which i replaced for like maybe $30? Lol. Every other cost was maintenance I didn't have to really do, just wanted to... timing chain tensioner, struts, sway bar links, etc.

and I still think we RE-71R's and a manual trans it would of been surprisingly good at autocross lol. I hear people say the 1ZZ-FE seems to have more torque than BP6D

MR2 Spyder man, all the economy of a Corolla with all the handling of a mid engine sportsy car that weighs nothing. Buuuuuttttttt if you get one with some miles you'll probably have to swap the engine and gut the cats on the converter or get one with the engine already replaced. They had issues with the close coupled converters failing and the VVT's EGR functionality sucking converter debris back into the cylinders eating the rings and cylinders causing catastrophic oil consumption, in addition to the other oil consumption issues with the early 1ZZ.

Of course the solution there is just to 2ZZ swap but then you're back to buying premium fuel...but you'll still be getting 40mpg with awesome handling.

Controversial but I got madly tailgated by one of these the other day (had to get out the way, usually don’t even if it’s a big truck, but this guy was literally about to crash into me at 130).

Ok for one.. the MR2 spyder will not do 40 on the highway under normal circumstances with a 1zz.. much less a 2zz

two... it has zero storage space.. not exactly a corolla replacement

three.. I knew about the converter issue on those and the piston oil return holes clogging causing the oil consumption, didn't know about anything else. a lot of 1ZZ's even with oil consumption still get pretty high up there in miles tho. surprisingly reliable engine despite it's issues.

four... the 2ZZ gets worse economy than the 1ZZ lol.. and requires premium fuel due to the higher compression. thing screams tho. if you make it scream too much they like to blow up their oil pumps though, and if you make them scream around corners, they didn't have enough baffling with the stock pan so it would oil starve :/

I've put a lot of research into 1zzs/2zzs due to having a corolla originally with a 1st gen 1zz

From what i understand the blowing up of oil pumps happen when you rev it past the factory fuel/spark cut which was at like 8600RPM for the highest revving versions of the 2zz?

same tho. I almost got a Celica instead of the Accord. SO glad I did. 2ZZ is awesome, but my J30 is too. the accord is a much better daily. almost the same MPG, way nicer, more storage, quieter ride, still good handling, much nicer interior, etc.

accord is a better daily for sure. Totally agree. 2zz is an engine fit for a toy and that's exactly what it's used in... toys (besides the corolla/matrix, but that was about the only exception). they still use that same engine in some Lotus'es I think.. might be wrong

Accord is kinda expensive tho. All honda's are... idk why. reputation for just being a good car usually I guess. Just stinks when you see a manual trans civic/accord thats been all beat up or riced or something and it's still $6k.. like bruh I'll give you $1000 for it so I can undo what you did -_-

Two thousand dollars for the transmission rebuild in labor only. And thats just the estimate. The latest place I called isn't even sure if they can do it.

At least it's an actual number. The guy before this wouldnt even give me an estimated price.

i found one somewhat localish (more like a 6 hr drive) one. stickshift v6 too, only 3500, all it needs are front rotors apparently https://reno.craigslist.org/cto/d/sun-valley-2006-honda-accord-v6-exl/6879042666.html

I cant say I'm all that surprised by that price. The vast majority of shops don't want to open up transmissions, they simply replace them and send the trans to specialists.

I was hoping for a grand. $850 is what he told me thinking it was just pulling out an old one and switching in a new transmission. Waiting for him to call me back on an updated price

the Corolla T-Sport ... I think there was a version that was available with a superchaged 2ZZ IIRC ... 225hp

but i mean we did get a 4 door hatch and a sedan and a wagon as well ... iirc All had the option to have a 2ZZ

the 2 door hatch just looks the best IMO ... and the USDM sedan > EUDM sedan

people don't really build transmissions anymore I guess...

At this point I would get on forums and see if you can find someone who does. You're going to pay for it though I bet. might even have to remove your trans and ship it somewhere.

This is concerning for when I eventually will have to rebuild a miata trans.. I mean there will only be a ton of them for so long... if people keep blowing them up like they do because they attach them to 300 ft/lb engines and think they can take it and as it gets harder to find one with low miles this becomes an issue.... the trans swaps available aren't really that modern either.. Some older bmw transmissions but that's about it :/
