what's the point of the open-deck design? 

 

a lot of older engines used closed-deck designs (like my miata) and seem to do just fine? is it cheaper to do or something?

Probably a cheaper manufacturing process. Newer hondas are open + each cylinder has a slot between them to increase cooling. Haven't seen any head gasket issues with them yet.

As much as I really think this is a cool ass car, I really hate the subscription car, because it seems like it's essentially a lease, so you wouldn't be able to mod it. Insurance, Maintenance and services being included is pretty nice. But yeah. At least have to option to buy the car normally.

It all seems to stem from there not being enough dealerships or that they want to bypass dealerships. Which sucks. 

Can't even buy them over here. Just subscription here too. I wonder how this is going to go

Really there are probably people who still want to mod their cars and add things like boost or wheels or other minor mods, without worrying to have to remove it all when its time to give it back. And the fact they bypass dealers will suck, because if its' a system where you buy a car online like online shopping, then you can't even get a feel for the car like you could at a dealer.

A Polestar press manager stated that it will only be subscription based right now, but that report was conflicting, so more will be needed. Still stupid they don't have a way around the subscription as of now.

Yup, this thing is STUPID fast. 0-60 is around 3.7 seconds on a good paved street.
