Went from a i5 4460 to i7 4790k

Went from r9 380 4gb to rx460 2gb

Games run good at 1080p even though I gave a 30" 2560x1600 monitor

R9 380 is better than RX 460

Sold it to a miner

Also might sell my 4790k for x99 and cheap xeon

I regret going x99 from z87. So much more money for no performance in games. I told myself I needed 6 cores for things like video compression but I never do it.

I built my system with a GTX 970 and a Xeon E3-1231v3 in 2014. In 2015 I upgraded the board from a Gigabyte GA-H81M-DS2V to an MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition mostly so I could upgrade my RAM to DDR3-2400 since RAM was dirt cheap. I also upgraded the case from a crap Antec GX500 to a really nice Phanteks Enthoo Pro and added an SSD that year. But I really don't have much desire to upgrade just yet and haven't touched anything on my system in 2016 or 2017. The only game I have played where I had to turn a setting down below high to get a steady 60 fps was Rise of the Tomb Raider. I anticipate the new Assassins Creed and new Far Cry may rape my gpu, being Ubisoft games and all. I still remember how badly AC Unity was optimized so that a GTX 680 was the minimum requirement in fucking 2014. So if either of those games is awesome and I can't run 1080p high at 60 fps with my 970 I may upgrade to a Volta 60 series card when they launch if they're a nice upgrade, provided they're not inflated in price by miners (if so I guess I'll just drop to 900p if needed, blech). But since I don't plan on buying a new monitor nor new TV and since 1080p has become pretty easy to run since the drop to 14/16 nm I can't justify paying for another 70 series card.

The specs of my build is in my signature. I've only upgraded a few parts since the initial build. My build's still fine for today's AAA games in high settings at 1080p. The only thing that kinda bothers me is the lack of space, but I can always buy an extra hard drive/SSD.

I have a i7 2600, 10Gb of ram and a gtx 750ti. And really, it can run EVERYTHING (to be honest, my monitor is only 1440x900). But yeah, its funny because ppl seen to think they "need" X or Y and in reality your expectations are way over what you really need.

Ofc I would like to have a 1440p monitor with a rx 480, but I played games like witcher 3 on high mostly and it ran very well (60 fps) and even on 1440x900 the game is gorgeous, so I can say im happy with my setup.

Ultra is stupid. ALWAYS.

I can't speak for the 750Ti, but I sometimes use steam streaming to my MacBook Air, which is also 1440x900. And I too have played witcher 3 on it. (Favorite game of all time, replaced halo CE)

Eh I barely game anymore all I play is GTA

I hate that game with a passion, yet I play like 50 hours a month because it has some sick hold over me. Every night I try and have a good time, and I get hacked or griefed until my tears turn my bowl of cheez-its into orange mush. I walk away angry and determined to "get ahead" in Los Santos next time, and I never do and never will. So I keep playing.

Gigabyte ATX Mobo

Corsair 750Watt gold (again I think)

Still rocking my archaic HAF 932 case

Going to replace my 4770 with Ryzen 1700 and ram / mobo to DDR4 compatible gear but it's still running like a gem (DUSTY AS HELL THOUGH!)

I'm mostly satisfied with my setup. I replaced my OG monitor with a better IPS 1080p monitor cos the TN panel on my first one was rubbish.

I've been looking to upgrade my GPU but other than that I'm mostly satisfied. I did upgrade my PSU cos my original was a green label Corsair CX and my current one is an RMi which is awesome.

If i had to build a new rig then i'd actually buy a more expensive CPU and a similarly priced GPU as well as a similar PSU and monitor.

EDIT:

GPU and CPU for anybody interested.

I'm just trying to get a feel for computers that were primarily built about 2 years ago if the owners have upgraded, feel the need to, or are still happy. I should add that to the main post.

Mine was built almost exactly three years ago (november/december 2014) and AFAIK only one other person on the forums has the same case as me. The only thing I've added since it's first boot was another HDD and a slightly different PSU/ Currently running as 1080p 144hz moitor.

Last major upgrade I did was 2013. And just few weeks ago I finished 2013 upgrade :D So 4770K, 16gigs of RAM and GTX 780. As I do gradual upgrades, RAM was doubles last year with case switch. I'm in need for PSU change due coil whine and new(er) DVD drive as I suspect current from 2008 has died. But to get those this year vs getting tablet, don't really know.

I'm running:

I'm happy with it but I need to upgrade. I need more ram to run more eve clients. Still not sure if I need to upgrade the processor though. I think I might be able to keep it.

Late 2011 Build

AMD FX 6100 ---> 2014 AMD FX 6300

Stock 6100 cooler (Never used 6300 stock cooler due to it being smaller) ---> 2016 Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo

2 x 4GB Ram ---> 2015 4 x 4GB Ram (Always low on ram aka virtualization and other fun stuff)

AMD Radeon HD 6850 ---> 2014 Slapped a Corsair H55 on it --> 2016 RX 480

A 650w Raidmax that wasn't as bad as the rest ---> 2015 Seasonic G-550

Upgraded to an SSD boot drive in 2015

900p monitor ---> 2017 4k

None of these parts have failed me, however, I can feel the aging FX single threaded performance real well...

I still have my HD 6850 on a shelf to reminisce days of 1GB VRAM and OCing to 950mhz from the stock 775mhz.

Plan to upgrade to an R5 1600 or R7 1700 in half a year along with 32GB of ram (Don't judge me). Perhaps in half a year after that, upgrade to a current gen Vega card or something newer.

My setup is from 2015 at newest and it's still great. R9 FURY holds up in every game I play, and the 4790k is awesome.

I used to be quite active here.

I only upgraded not that long ago and jumping to threadripper this year.

I came from an X79 system that had a GTX 680 2gb while having 64gb of ram only because why not?

I then went to the Z170 platform and had the Titan-X(not xp) from a previous purchase and only upgraded to a 1080 last year.  But I have had a lot of issues with the z170 platform... first off lots of crashes during games, granted this is a memory issue that I only finally diagnosed a few days ago because well...I'm programming almost 24/7 or doing pixel art for a game I'm working on or I'm at work...doing pixel art(:p)

I should have just upgraded my CPU and PSU as I do regret going from x79 to z170...  I only went because of USB C at the time and because of m.2.

Well I bought a pre-built Acer Aspire M1930 in May 2012 and I've upgraded it since then.

Motherboard: Acer IPISB-VR Rev 1.01

CPU: Intel Celeron G530 2.4GHz --> Intel Core i5 2320 3GHz (June 2016)

CPU Cooler: DeepCool CK-11508 --> DeepCool Ice Edge Mini FS v2 (September 2016)

RAM: 4GB DDR3 1333MHz --> added another 4GB stick (April 2014)

GPU: AMD Radeon HD7470 2GB --> AMD Radeon RX460 4GB (November 2016)

HDD: Seagate 1TB 7200rpm --> added a 500GB Seagate HDD (January or February 2017)

PSU: Don't remember the brand, but it is 250W --> CoolerMaster B500 v2 500W (November 2016)

Case: Acer --> CoolerMaster Silencio 352M (November 2016)

It runs the games I play at decent fps with high settings on 1080p. The most demanding games I play are GTA V and Fallout 4. The GPU is a bit loud and hot when gaming but it isn't a problem.

Upgrading in the future? Maybe a i7-2600, 16GB RAM and an SSD. Not in this particular order. But other than that not upgrading to anything newer.
