  1. I have an S10e and it's kinda buggy and needs a reset and my mum needs a new phone too sooooooo

So here are the final options for a new phone I think:

    Galaxy S21 / S21+ at Bell: $57.50 a month for 8GB 5G data, unlimited talk/text, $15/$25 a month for the phone for 24 months respectively.

iPhone 11 at Freedom: $50 a month for 15GB LTE data, unlimited text, $0.05/min calls, $25 a month for the phone for 24 months

iPhone 12 at Freedom: $55 a month for 15GB LTE data, unlimited talk/text, $30/month for the phone for 24 months

Galaxy S21 lease at Rogers: $80 a month for 30GB 5G data, unlimited talk/text, $4.50 for the phone for 24 months (then I have to return the phone), $100 bill credit

^ these options all require me to pay an extra $127+VAT to break previous contract

Get an S22 when that comes out (rumours look good), get a temporary phone or use my current phone:

    • iPhone X/XS/XS Max - $320/$450/550 used
    • S20 FE/S20+ - $520/650 used
    • Pixel 4 XL - $500
    • Out of these, I'm thinking the iPhone just for the resale value when I inevitably sell it to either my brother or on Facebook in January 2022.

For my mum's phone, I could just reset my old phone and give it to her, or maybe I should just buy her a used Pixel 3a or P30 Lite for like $120/200 respectively.

I mean the S22 wouldn't be far off there at Feburary either. I doubt I'll be a huge fan of the Pixel 6.

Well I just switched to a iPhone 8 Plus to see if I like iOS, mainly cause my samsung note 10+ just died. If I like it then I will try iPhone for the next two years since my regular contract is up in october. iPhone 13 maybe, or maybe pixel 6 we will see. Probably won't use samsung again.

Update: Bhell is pretty much paying me to buy a new Samsung.

      S21 @ $6 a month for 24 months or S21+ for $20. $57.50 for 8GB 5G data.

Then $120+VAT to break my current contract.

Not sure if I can pass this up.

      yeah thats fair

  2. B(h)ell offered me 8GB 5G data, unlimited call/text for $57.50 a month and an S21+ for $25 a month on top of that, or an S21 for $15..... and a free pair of Galaxy Buds Pro.

I mean, do I need this? Do I wait until my contract is up in August? hmmmmm it is a good deal

Eh I can't do bell again, they screwed me over one too many times. Gonna stick with Telus since they are mostly reliable, and after 5 years you get awesome deals.

Bell and Telus use the same network anyway.

the connector in the Macbook Pro 2015 is proprietary

You can get adapters for the gens of Macbooks that have proprietary storage connectors that allow you to use regular M.2 SSDs, I helped my friend install one

On more recent XPS 13s and Macbooks, memory is not upgradeable. While storage is upgradeable on both Dell XPS and Macbook Pros, the connector in the Macbook Pro 2015 is proprietary. Also, be sure to repaste it--they run hot.

That stuff I know - just never have bought a used laptop before. I'm particularly scared I'm going to get up with a stolen laptop haha but we'll see how it goes.

I'm pretty versed in buying used PC parts, just not laptops and stuff.

The early 2015 13" is pretty good, but make sure to get the absolutely top spec with i7 and 16GB of RAM. You can upgrade the storage yourself.

  4. Yeah.... I just wrote several letters to my MP and the ministers responsible... this seems like a really bad idea.
  5. It's really not worth the upgrade.... you won't be getting that much more performance.
  6. I'm getting an new phone... my mum's old iPhone 6+ is dead and my S10e feels too small and probably needs a reset, so I guess I'll give it to her.

Considering getting a used Pixel 4XL or a new S20 FE.... OP 8 Pro is decent at $800+VAT as well.

For the software alone I would strongly avoid Samsung and get the Pixel.

Agreed. I tried samsung for two years, it's a good phone but the layout of the OS is terrible. Pixel is better only for the fact everything is essentially stock and has no extra addons aside from google apps.

And the few changes from an actually stock Android experience (like some custom ROMs and Android One stuff) are super, super nice (gcam, always-on display, etc).

I've used Samsung ever since Note 5.... used the Pixel 3a and the Huawei P20 for a bit as well, don't really mind the Samsung software actually.....

The only issue I have with the Pixel is the smaller battery... but since it's used I'd be getting it at around C$400 for near new condition. The performance should be fine right? The S855 is getting a little old but I think it'll do for the next bit. It's the same chip as my current phone though, I'm not sure how I feel about a sidegrade like that, although my main complaint with my phone is that the screen is too small.

  7. i mean, if you think about it, it doesn't really benefit the companies anyway. now they have to track huge amounts of ID numbers, which is a big security risk, and they don't make any extra profit from it.
  8. 1. They really don't care. 2. Not every country has a national ID system. Exhibit A: United States. Plus, you really shouldn't have to share your ID to get a fucking GPU. 2b. I have three different "national IDs" here in Canada. Passport, BCID, foreign passport. What would stop me from using all 3? Then maybe getting a photo health card, a drivers license, or some other type of national ID. 3. A lot of miners buy direct from distributors, same as retailers. Many don't buy from retail. 5. That would be really hard to track. 6-8. Miners have never bought in bulk from ret
  9. i bought 3 RTX 3060s in the last week.

something has gone terribly wrong with the BB/Newegg stock control system. to allow one person to buy so many in a week.

without bots. same CC, same address each time.

      Did they ever control stock?

      nope. they claim to though.

best buy says "we enforce a limit of 1 per household. this means that we will cancel all RTX 3000 series purchases to the address after they purchase their first RTX 3000 series card."

they don't. i've gotten 2 RTX 3070s, a 3060 Ti, 2 RTX 3060s in the past 3 months to the same address on the same credit card.

it's all bullshit. they don't care.

      @LienusLateTips be like to BB/Newegg:

SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY

  10. what i'm considering:

selling my GPU in my gaming PC at scalper pricing

using that money to upgrade the laptop i was gonna buy anyway to a zephyrus g14

not use gaming PC until prices settle down

buy GPU at regular price later, and now also have nice light gaming laptop
