2015 or earlier setups. Who's still happy?

wonderboyATHF

2014 build. Upgraded GPUs from 780Tis to Titans, then sold the Titans and went back to the 780s. For rendering, productivity, vms etc it still crushes most modern machines and for gaming more than holds its own.

Wouldve upgraded but because I've got maxed out specs on X79, if I want to upgrade CPU and motherboard, I also have to replace 128GB of RAM from DDR3 to 4. So just not cost effective and wouldn't see any real performance gains.

Define "built"

Components wise, I built mine back in 2015 and I'm still very happy with my specs.

I've changed cases a couple times but overall I'm pleased with the performance and don't see myself upgrading for a couple more years at least.

I upgrade every 18-24 months. I used to just upgrade video cards but now I sell my system and rebuild. I have the pleasure of building, selling and working with some of the latest products but I get bored easily. Right now I have a 1700 32gb ram and a GTX 1080.

not entirely related but that case is awesome.

It's an InWin D Frame mini with a modded backplate. It's normally micro ITX. I also have two of them!

Let's define built as when you first installed the OS?

I gotta ask what's made you go with 128Gb. I went 32, which was too much. Then I bought 32 more because my case has no side panel and the empty dimm slots were haunting me

Im still using my build from 2013.

i5 3570k

16 Gigs of Ram

HD7950

650 Watt PSU

256 Gig SSD

2x 1TB Hard Drives

Only changes I made from when I first built it was went from 8 gigs to 16 Gigs of ram and added a second monitor. Im considering building a new machine, but Im taking my time and seeing what the market will bring. Plus, Im not sure how much I want to spend.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

My laptop has a 3rd Gen Core i7 @ 2.9ghz. I think it was initially released around 2013.

I'm more then happy with it, and it does everything that I need it to do.

Because I spend most of my time editing/compositing/rendering and heavy compute tasks. I originally went 64, used it all and then swapped it for 128GB ECC when my board got a BIOS update to support it. I was also vain- I took the heatspreaders off my gaming 64GB kit and painstakingly glued them onto the ECC kit.

I'm perfectly happy with my system.

4770k @ 4.8Ghz

GTX 770

550 watt seasonic psu

Asus z87 motherboard

2 tb WD HDD

I did recently get a 512 GB Samsung ssd and a GTX 1070. I only got the 1070 bc I'm planning to get a 1440p monitor here soon. I see no reason to upgrade until cannon lake or maybe even ice lake.

I have a 3570k and 7970 Ghz Edition.
I am still happy with it, but I still really want a new computer :P

7970 was a beast!

I had two of them for like 5 years until I switched to dual 980Tis back in 2015
