Microsoft Edge vulnerability could let people hijack your Twitter (or any other) account

Does this also affect IE11?

A relative I know uses IE11 very extensively. Even after I tried to move her to Edge.

That I do not know.

You'd be surprised, public banks here in Brazil all demand you to use IE since their "security plugin" only works on it.

Security Plugin via IE? Plugins in IE also known as ActiveX and BHO are notorious for vulnerabilities because they run with high privileges not to mention too much system resources.

I guess I'm lucky the bank I trust doesn't force me to use IE at all.

If people followed procedure for submitting bugs to Microsoft then we wouldn't need this to brought up whilst it is not fixed yet.

Isn't that the reason why telemetry exists?

Oh wait yeah I forgot, it's done to sell your data, not fix errors like Microsoft says.

Wish other browsers ran as nicely on an Intel Atom as Edge though. Never got hardware acceleration to work properly in Chrome or Firefox.

How come so many don't like Edge?

Because it's terrible.

It has gotten a lot better with updates, but it still has a ton of drawbacks and lack of functionality. At least that's how it was before the Creator's update. I haven't felt like torturing myself in the last couple of weeks so I have not tried it out since then.

So, I should use FireFox until this issue is fixed?

You could also just not use the password manager.

Or better yet, not use Edge at all.

Telemetry is not the same as data collection. You misunderstand what it is you are saying versus what you mean.

Telemetry is at it's heart, crash information, OS version, OS builds, app version. Error reporting mechanisms.

Data collection outside of that is not telemetry. It is simply data collection.

Edge uses telemetry and relies on people to report findings to MS so they can fix issues. If you have a problem with this then you fundamentally should have a problem with every major piece of software you use.

Telemetry is data collection...

Its definition of telemetry is the transmission of data collected at a remote location.

and much, much more if you ask Microsoft.

You're making a very big (and false) assumption that the programs I use all have telemetry and other data collection. At worst, the programs I use have it as opt-out. A lot of them has it as opt-in and the rest don't have it at all.

I never use Password Managers to begin with, they cant be trusted as it is; if it is coded it can be broken.

I will still use edge as I like the UI vs other Browsers.

*cough* Bullshit *cough* Today all software has some kind of telemetry built in.

Yes. At first I wasn't sure but after a few minutes I liked it better than where it was before.

*edit

Has a more fluid feel to it some how ... not sure how to explain that but it works for me.

I have to admit that I haven't used Edge since W10 was first released, so it might be better now, but the two big things that bugged me were the download manager on it and the URL/Search bar locations.

Yeah it sucked pretty bad at first but I find it to be much improved since. Still needs more add-on support but it s is getting there.

so as long as LTT doesn't get hijacked, my LTT password (I assume how this works is that it'll take it somehow.. Don't have it in edge's password manager) won't get stolen
