I've seen a pre-built with an i5 6600k, with an Intel stock cooler and a not so great psu. They made people think they needed that k just to make them pay more and therefore use them. That's what corporations mainly do these days, and that's what is criticized: they don't make products for the people best interests.

No company will bend over backwards for customers and give them exactly what they want or need for their uses. Pre-builts are always going to have a large profit margin because they're pre-builts - someone else is doing the work to order the parts and put a PC together. As for the shit PSU thing, that's been an issue for the longest time and I don't have an answer for you. But the people who buy PCs with shit PSUs probably don't know how to take care of their PCs to begin with, thus creating a market for themselves.

My argument was if a company wants to make money, they will make something better than another company and charge more. There's other things they can do, but that's essentially how to beat the other guy in consistent profits. Now that's not always the case (see Walmart), but that's how it is with electronics generally.

The reason some people buy pre-builts is because they don't know someone personally who can help them build a PC, or they're too hardheaded and they don't listen to advice someone gives them. Or both. This is something I'm sure you already know.

Those prebuilt manufacturers have a market, so they're selling to that market.

His trade is dying for other reasons, not just because "it's easier to replace items" or "there are really cheap 3rd party warranties". I went on the recycling rant because we have so many new electronics that could potentially work just fine getting put in the garbage because of one little flaw that can be easily fixed if schematics were available, or you can pay a hefty fee to the original company and potentially get fucked over. Is that what you call progression, mate? Have you ever had a job before?

I just recently spent the equivalent of $1000 to get the fucking keyboard on my mid 2015 dual graphics retina mbp. I had no other alternative, I would use a service like his in a heartbeat if I had the chance. I like my macbook, but I'm by no means a fanboy, their repair system is savage though. For instance the keyboard. To replace the keyboard you have to replace the entire top cover , trackpad, and battery as they come as one unit. It's unnecessary

The older mbps (pre retina) were actually relatively simple to service and at least used some parts that were pretty easily available, and not just from them. Like a battery you can actually replace.

or you get your laptop repaired for 300 dollars instead of buying a 1000 dollar new one. and he is doing laptop and phone repairs mostly not desktop gpu but he probably can do a gpu repair which comes with the same concept pay 200-300 dollars for a repair instead of 600 for a new one and btw if he doesnt fix it he doesnt charge you. and you dont seem to understand what he is doing so there is a point for you to watch but if you want to remain ignorant then sure you do you

Apples laptops have multiple design flaws in both their cooling and structural designs. Sometimes this can even be with pcbs. Different revisions of boards do not always mean design flaws. There are products that release with design flaws. And please dont be so dense as to say no they dont. 

But in case you do, Apple had a design flaw with the iphone 4 where if you held it wrong the signal dropped out. Apples response was they were holding the phone wrong.

For boards that release with flaws there are fixes that repair techs make. This can be from replacing components to higher quality ones, creating jump points, down to creating custom daughter boards. 

 

So again, please stop wasting peoples time. 

Even though, they want to be as perfect as possible from the factory. Nothing is perfect. And that Asus rev thing is from a Interview from a Asus engineer. Rev 1.00 means they get a bonus in their pay checks.

Go to OEM and they charge you arm and leg for repair (or replace the entire part) or just simply say it's broken. Then they say, why do you spend your money and buy new one from your selected models. Hey look at this one, it has a shiny mirror screen. I'm sure you love it. Only cost $1,500, very cheap!

Go to him and he'll tell you what's wrong, says I've check your laptop and found out your GPU has fried as well as some of the inductors on the motherboard. To replace the GPU and inductors, parts including labor, total is $200. Would you like to repair it?

I'm not saying he's lying, but rather he's worried, thinking of the worst, and he's the type to bring his unfiltered worries to his viewers. I'd be willing to bet neither his business nor his youtube channel is in danger but from his point of view it seems like it is.

Of course doing a repair will be the better and sensible option. Spending $2,000 on a new laptop just because a single component is broken is stupid. But it also depends on how long you have it. 7+ years, then you might to consider, whether it's worth on fixing it or getting a new one.

As for him, he's has a business. so he can continue to put food on the table by becoming a Apple authorized repair center or join the unemployment line.  As for you, if you want him not to live on the streets, I'm sure you'll want him to become one, even though it would basically mean, he has to take back what he said earlier in his videos.

On his site, they also do CCTV, maybe he can repair CCTVs but no more apple products.

He's not really egotistical. He knows his place, and his place is running a very successful repair shop in one of the most competitive markets in the USA. Also, what delusions of grandeur? He says sometimes that "if I wanted to, I could go on vacation for two weeks and it wouldn't hurt my bank account." So what? He isn't lying. Again, he makes bank. Him and his employees repair hundreds of motherboards and other parts at a component-level each week. He knows his stuff about repairs.

 

He teaches classes about repairs. He KNOWS that he doesn't know everything, like in some videos when he says he would refuse to repair hospital equipment, because of how sensitive it is. He's a very smart, humble guy.
