Louis Rossmann going up against Apple starting tomorrow

1 minute ago, wcreek said:

Huh interesting. Wonder why the FTC or whoever is in charge of that hasn't pursued fining businesses that practice that warranty void if removed stuff. Probably lobbying and corruption.

Probably, yeah. They really need to start prosecuting companies for voiding warranties over user repair and trying their hardest to actively mask peoples' rights from them.

I have never been able to stand this guy.  He is an egotistical know-it-all with delusions of grandure.   I would be willing to put good money on him being in trouble for some shady sources of materials and/or blueprints.

While I agree on the Right to repair bill, that doesn't change the rest of it.

Tell my tale to those who ask. Tell it truly; the ill deeds along with the good, and let me be judged accordingly.

The US is quite anti-consumer. I mean it does have some elements that makes it a little better but still it's pathetic when you compare it to the likes of the EU.

Maybe Linus can have a new technical hire, if the case goes well... and maybe even if the case goes badly.

While I personally believe it would be absolutely wonderful to have Louis helping Linus with video content, Louis has stated that if device repair ever slows down or halts, he has experience to move to other fields. At one point, Louis specifically mentions moving on to repairing expensive medical equipment, which I could only imagine is an extremely profitable opportunity. Of course, his mind could change, but he seems to enjoy working for himself.

I hope for the best for Louis, his channel was an inspiration to me and helped me learn a quite a bit.

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.

I'm sure it's Apple. It wouldn't be too surprising since their legal team is rather unforgiving, and pretty heartless. I mean I know protecting IPs are important and protecting copyrights and what not, are important. But still repairing stuff I don't think is reverse engineering.

Oh yeah definitely. They will try to shut down small businesses to increase their revenue by forcing Apple customers to have it repaired it in the apple store.

@ShadowCaptain Your favorite company is destroying livelihoods and is killing off small businesses. What do you have to say for yourself?

I'm not a big fan of him either but still it shouldn't grant Apple (or whoever) the right to do a cease and desist or whatever unless there has been a clear violation of their EULA, Patents or Copyrights. The potential claim of reverse engineering would only make sense to their software not their hardware.

Much like I don't care for H3H3, but that doesn't grant the right of whoever is suing them to sue them unless there was a clear infringement and doesn't fall under fair use. Now I know whatever the deal with Rossman and H3H3 are, are unrelated but still.

In Asia it's even worse. They consumer protection is even worse than the US. They only need to provide a minimum of 7 day warranty on physical products which are durables.

See at least I acknowledged the US isn't the worse but it isn't as good as the likes of the EU. Who seem to have the interests of the consumer in mind. While being an questionable body that some see as very undemocratic and bureaucratic. Which I'm not going to say that it isn't. It does have those elements. But from those elements doesn't just dismiss all its benefits. So yeah.
7 days? Damn that sucks.

Why I mentioned that I'm not subscribed to him.

But the videos he makes have a lot of extremely valuable information, and if I was to ever enter a tech repair job I would definitely watch all of them to learn, even if I'm not a big fan of his.

I would hate if all that information just got deleted from his channel, since afaik there arent any other youtube channels that show you these "black market" schematics, and how to repair certain apple issues that he has already fixed.

Watching a video where he figures out what the issue is and fixes it is far less effort then spending years figuring out how to fix it yourself.

Depends on if they're suing him in NY or CA. If it's in his state, they might be more in favor of consumer protection. Which in turn might yield a different judgement.

I used to like his channel, coz he ONLY speaks the truth.

After a while, I un-subbed his channel. Because I just felt that sometimes he is TOO stubborn a person, the resentment he has for everything is too strong, and sometimes even unreasonable.

Now I watched his last video, I finally can understood why he felt that way, that huge disappointment when your loved ones and friends betray you (especially when you were still under age , not fully matured) can eat you up, bit by bit. I am pretty sure that I did not grew up in that environment when I was a kid, but I did experience it before, not long ago. People will say he is stubborn, he talks with salt and hatred, but what they do not understand is that huge emptiness he has buried inside him for long long time. No one wanna be the out cast in this world, but sometimes shit happened and we find ourselves in this situation, without doing anything wrong. And we are not capable of escaping it over night. For some people that lasted a year, or 5, or 10, for others it lasted over a life time. The thing that Louis does not understand is that 1st, you do not have to fight for the righteous EVERY SINGLE TIME; 2nd, it is okay to be unhappy and fed up with this life, we don't and cannot be happy every single day, and most importantly 3rd , IT CAN BE, AND IT IS TIRESOME TO BE THE MOST RIGHTEOUS PERSON IN THIS WORLD.  As they said, "we can be hero, but just for one day".

If it is not broken, let's fix till it is.

Fully specced out early 2013 Macbook "pro" with gt 650m and constant 105c temperature on the CPU (GPU is 80-90C) when doing anything intensive...

A 2013 laptop with a regular sized battery still has better battery life than a 2017 laptop with a massive battery! I think this is a testament to apple's ability at making laptops, or maybe how little CPU technology has improved even 4+ years later (at least, until the recent introduction of 15W 4 core CPUs). Anyway, I'm never going to get a 35W CPU laptop again unless battery technology becomes ~5x better than as it is in 2018.

Apple knows how to make proper consumer-grade laptops (they don't know how to make pro laptops though). I guess this mostly software power efficiency related, but getting a mac makes perfect sense if you want a portable/powerful laptop that can do anything you want it to with great battery life.
