Whenever a wayward non-gamer friend posts about this I just list the many female characters from the Halo universe. Most of whom are/were complete badasses.

Tomb Raider? Has been around since the beginning of time with a female main character. Also a lot of other characters are not even human

The only effect calling out stuff like this will do is further discourage game developers to create characters that are female.

 

It's better to just take the heat for not making a female character at all than trying to bother creating a female character whilst having crazy rabid people calling you out at every turn at this rate.

When you have a male there are less options to choose from, such as sly, clever, edgelord etc etc you get the point. Changing that to a female changes it a bit, extra options appear because now you have to think if they are respectable or not, do they show their goods off to everyone if you know what i mean but then you want them to still look attractive. Ultimately from the research we have done of which a metric ton has been done else some of my colleagues wouldnt have degrees is that most people regardless of gender prefer

Still though that is the easy part, character designs can be done, a reasonably attractive women can be made everyone is happy.

 

Then the issues start spouting, kind of things you overlook in development and then testers tell you about, for example lets say i have cloth rendering, a cape for example on a woman or though trench coat kind of things or even a skirt. 

 

You have to limit the amount of flexible cloth or just remove it altogether, its a pain because it takes up time/money and in some cases i know people just use inject code that they paid for certain features so they feel as if they arent getting their money's worth. 

 

It goes even further, you have to limit the camera angles so to prevent the protagonist from flashing everyone, this annoys us and can sometimes annoy players because no one likes it when the camera forces a certain angle.

 

Lots of small things add up until the conclusion simply is that its less risky and more cost effective to make a male protagonist, in the end we do need to make money to survive, we have deadlines to meet. In a perfect world we could do both, leave everything as it is and let the player decide if they want to be a perv or not. 

 

Several people think that this movement has scared many developers off female protagonists, id say that i can agree with that, being a game developer is a extremely hard job at times so i can completely understand why someone would choose to not have a female protagonist. Too many people try to connect dots which most of the time do not make any sense.

Welcome to 2016 where everyone gets offended at everything. Lets be real, a majority of videos games have plots or situations where you would be much more likely to be a male/and or would more likely interest a male. Sports/racing, fps, fighting games, action games. Meanwhile fantasy and rpg's already tend to have female characters abound. Why can't people just accept that males and females tend to lean towards different things. Yes some males will want to do things traditionally considered feminine and some females will want to do things that are considered masculine, but that doesn't mean that every fucking game/industry/store/anything else has to cater to both genders.

I dont expect many of you to understand, but this topic just brought this video up to my mind aha, which i watched today. What the world would be like without women you say? A flipping catastrophe!
