And yes conspiracy theorists, only AMD cards seems to be affected.

Just to clarify.

Quote

AMD’s Radeon Fury X and Radeon 380 also choked when switching quality to High and running at 1440p or higher.

Surely the performance gets even worse as you make your way down the Radeon product stack, right? Oddly enough, no. I tested an Asus Strix R7 370 under the same demanding 4K benchmark, and it turned in only a 13% lower average framerate. Crucially, no stuttering or artifacting was present.

The Radeon 390x is just fine, achieving double the framerate at High Quality/4K as the more expensive Fury and Nano cards.

What on earth is happening? I can only speculate at this point, but Microsoft PR finally sent me a statement late last night confirming the issue, although not with any level of detail: “We are working closely with AMD to address a few issues that users of some AMD Radeon Hardware are experiencing while playing Gears of War: Ultimate Edition for Windows 10 and expect that they will be addressed quickly in an upcoming update.”

That statement was preceded by the heading “driver issues.”

With recent cuts and looming issues AMD is continuing to face issues. When you are forced to cut your employee base things like this will happen. Drivers will get updated and issues will get fixed, but not having "game ready drivers" continues to be a bleeding wound on AMD's side.

This does't seem to be new, I feel like I've seen poor optimizations for amd plenty of times. Its the result of games optimizing for Nvidia who have a majority of the graphics market.

If I use words like probably or most likely, it is because I dislike certainty. These words can probably be omitted and the sentence read as a certainty.

AMD didn't cut any of their hardware or software engineers, only parts of their marketing.

That is most definitely a driver issue if cards a tier lower are experiencing no problems.

The xbone is 2 generations behind of the fury (or is it 3?) So this is almost for sure a driver issue.

Is it just me or does software/games for PC need a thing like net neutrality. I am sick of seeing games like Arkham Knight and Just Cause 3 having this settings specifically made for Nvida graphic cards. Also the games that intentionally run bad and AMD cards but run great on Nvida. It is ridiculous. (don't get me wrong, AMD has their fair share of games they do this with too)

GPU: XFX RX 7900 XTX

CPU: Ryzen 7 7800X3D

I thought the same thing when I read this. I used to be a long time Tera (MMO) player on my old Alienware laptop which had Nvidia graphics and I could run the game no problem on med/high settings and get 50-60 FPS... Then I built my first desktop which has an FX-8350 and a 4GB R9 380 and it can't even get 20 FPS on low settings at 1080p. AMD has always suffered from poor optimization which has always made me sad. :(

the AMD APU in XB1 is based on GCN 1.1 while the Fiji GPU is based on GCN 1.2 - so, just one revision apart

Dam, I never seen a game run like that before. I'm sure it'll get fix soon, like every other game with release issues.

I don't think this is vendor favoritism. The settings are just Nvidia effects, which can be disabled. Those two games ran bad (namely Arkham Knight) for both vendor's cards so the issue isn't just with the vendors (not saying they're guilt-free).

Source might be bad and could do with less bias but the issue is real. AMD will need to fix that chop chop.

Problem seems to be only on the Fury cards anyway. The dudes 370 didn't have any stuttering with only 13% lower average.
