Four different serial numbers spotted for Pascal

Unfortunately there are no specs with this article, but it has been confirmed that 4 new serial numbers have been added to a batch list to be picked up at a Port in china. The fact that they're ready to be picked up in China makes it seem like they're done a first batch of Pascal cards, and 4 different ones!

Why though. there are much better cards that the same price, use less power, make less noise, give off less heat. Go for a fury, or a 980. the 7990 has to put up with crossfire scaling and issues.

In the other thread AMD was said to be targeting minimum spec VR at less than $349. They better do a lot better than that to convince me to buy a Polaris GPU.

Yes, LESS than 349, which is not what you wrote in your post. Their entire point was to provide high performance (needed for vr) to a market below 970 pricing. Expect down to 249 easy.

Definitely not the x60 or x80ti. x80ti won't come out until a while after the Titan.

Still not that impressive considering you could get top of the line R9 290 like the Sapphire Tri X and PowerColor PCS+ for $230 with four free games in Q4 2014, and that's the minimum spec VR card. I hope AMD is aiming for something really impressive at the $350 price point and not just an incremental upgrade like the R9 390 was for $100 more than the R9 290.

Goal: attracting investors.

 

A bit later similar stuff is spotted.

 

Nvidia, still being silent about it, seems to be suddenly making some progress. BUT there is NO announcement. why?

 

Before i saw this i could think of 2 reasons,

1. Pascal is terrible compared to Polaris.

or

2. Nvidia is behind, a LOT.

 

But, it's probably time to get rid of option 2 because if you compare the date when this got figured out, and when the exact same thing got found from polaris, there isn't much of a gap. (like 1 month? or even less?)

 

I really don't get it. If they are ready to ship stuff around, why don't they announce it? They clearly have enough information at this point to make some "amazing and mind-blowing" claims and put it out there.

If you want a reason why they should, investors. Every company needs investors to keep growing. And best way to attract them? Show them you are the best in the business. Why do you think AMD is trying to make the world believe polaris is a big deal? And the hype train is more of a bonus and not the main focus.

 

This raises more questions than answers honestly...

Or if we look at history, Nvidia never hypes products far ahead of launch. The hype tends to come within weeks. HPC clients have already seen what they need to.

980 Ti is a perfect example.

 

AMD overhypes stuff to the point people are expecting super duper quadruple the performance i.e. Fiji, and when they release, the hype turns out to be a thud. Part of it is AMD, the other consumers, but mostly AMD. The overclockers dream is still to this day just that... a dream.

 

nVidia OTOH doesn't need to hype anything. I like the way they present their products, the day of or a bit before release. It avoids unnecessary overhype. When nVidia delivers; what you see is what you get. No strings attached.

In January Samsung started HBM2 mass production. it really looks like Nvidia will push out Pascals GP104 and GP100 within this year. This would be amazing. 

On the other hand, this could be devastating to AMD. Polaris has to perform, they just have to bring it this time, the price of NVIDIA GPUS will explode if not.

Someone needs to review microeconomics and what drives profit...

 

Even a full-blown monopoly can't price wherever it pleases in an elastic-demand market. The point where marginal revenue and marginal cost of production cross will be the price each item is sold at.

This all makes perfect sense. You just need to think about it a different way. 

 

NVIDIA has ~80% marketshare. Why would they want general consumers (normal people, not the enthusiasts reading rumor sites) to be waiting for the next big thing when NVIDIA has a 4/5 chance of capturing the sale with mature technology they built ages ago (read:profitable) if they buy today? 

 

AMD on the other hand needs to start the hype train as early as possible in hope of capturing the consumer's dollars later when they believe they can be more competitive.

Ok, let me ask you a question.

If you are reseller, and you have two new products for the same field of use. And one is selling much better then the other and therefore is harder to obtain through the wholesale or manufacturer by limited stocks how do you react?

 

From what ive learned as salesman is: 

You make the much better selling product more expansive so you make more profit with less stock capacity. This is how it has to be done, otherwise you run out of stock and cant make any profit when reordering isnt available.

 

Exactly what has happened to Skylake CPU's the first month's.

 

BTW im doing this job 20years now. You can go to your fucking school let you teach BS about things u wont ever understand IRL.

The reseller buys in bulk most of the time and gets discounts which it can fill in for profit margin. The reseller has its own price ceiling too built out of marginal revenue and marginal cost.

 

No, Skylake's pricing is pure demand. Did you not see Intel's Q4 results? They saw a 14% year over year demand increase. In other words, they didn't have the supply to match the demand, which shifted the marginal revenue curve for vendors who'd already bought at a cheaper price. In other words, Intel actually lost potential profit for not having its supply lines fully stocked. Even if Intel became a monopoly, its prices can't increase much beyond what they were for Haswell. Their sales numbers would drop like a stone, and the profit would too, even with higher margins.

 

I sold used cars as a freshman year gig. I know how slimey it gets. You still don't understand the underlying reality and the proven mathematics that describe it.
