Looks like it's christmas, and what more to start the seasons than by threats from "Hacker Groups" to take down online services from different platforms, in this case PlayStation Network and Xbox Live.

 

Should we believe this? Well, in some situations we shouldn't, it is the internet after all, it doesn't guarantee this is going to happen.

 

This threat has come from phantom squad this time, with this tweet:

 

 

Well, as usual, let's hope that they don't do this, my personal opinion on this is what the common individuals should be, that these people shouldn't really be doing this, or attempting to ruin this for other people, especially at a time of the year when people have some time off work in order to relax and play a few titles.

 

Not only to that point, realistically, majority of this is just DDoS. Which is becoming so much easier for individuals to do.

 

What is everyone elses opinions? Remember that time PlayStation Network went down for a few months? Although that won't happen in this situation (I hope), this is still something that just shouldn't still be happening.

Eh, I game on PC, unless they can manage to bring Steam, Origin or the entire internet down, I really don't care. And even there... Steam support Offline play anyway.

It can affect PC's too. Last year when LS ddosed EA (I think) one of the largest ISP's in Sweden (Telia Sonera) went down because they were the ISP EA used. So I was unable to use the internet at all for like a day or so. Not too bad but still, it could happen again.

There's a tip going around, encouraging those purchasing consoles as gifts for others to open it themselves and run the first-time set-up so they don't have to wait around as much.

Steam mitigated the issues far more efficiently than Sony and Microcash.

@GSTARR I believe this holds some degree of relevance.  I feel bad, honestly.  For all the people who end up getting consoles and not taking the time to look at steam.  I know many people who do so.  You would think for the level of entertainment these companies are supposed to bring - they'd have better protocol and capability of dealing with these massive attacks.  Especially when they're announced so publicly.

It doesn't really. Why feel bad for people who know what they want? Besides turning up the graphics, and mods that I don't really care for, PC doesn't have alot for me (although technically turning up the graphics is something i really wanna do, which is where i would say "Most people [like me] can't afford the pc we want" which is where most people cry foul) because I don't care for indie games. Consoles deliver AAA titles and enough others to be interesting and in depth (at least ps3 and XB360 do, still waiting on ps4 and XB1). Computer for work, console for gaming.

 

Some people like them separate, other people are fanboys; who cares. People want what they want, and I feel bad for anyone who doesn't take the time to look at their options when buying something that's above 200$

Well I don't game on either XBox/1 or PS3/4 so it wont disrupt my gaming experience BUT I do not condone this as this is completely out of line, I cannot stand hackers and their threats, go piss off somewhere else or use your talents for something better like screwing with terrorists.
