Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump just said the US should consider "closing up" the internet to curb radical extremism. Trump, a man that routinely claims everyone in charge of the US is stupid, believes that as president he could just call up Bill Gates to help him shut off the internet. 

 

So, it looks like Trump is blaming the internet (and more specifically, the dark web) in part for the recruitment and radicalization of people joining organizations like ISIS. Now I do agree that they most likely use the internet to do some of these things, but really? You really think it is that easy to shut down or even limit the level of access US citizens have to the internet? I don't think so. There is cable run up and down most all streets in the US and into almost all homes. Never mind cell phone providers and other wireless providers like DirectTV satellite

Which, I do agree 100% with. I think we can all agree regardless of gender/ party/ religion/ etc that the internet has made it easier to bully, in many cases (at least mostly) anonymously which has unfortunately played a role in suicides. But I still think his measures are a bit drastic. We use the internet for everything! And he does too!

 

This one otta get a lot of attention, lol. Donald Trump, The internet, and Politics all together.....

Dying is to easy. I think slowly going towards a 1000 Degree C ( Centimeters every hour to be precice, slowly melting away )  fire while each of your fingers are cut off and 1 by 1 a needle is put into your body while being forced to drink your whole blood is a much better idea.

Why stop at cellphones, landlines, -and- the internet?  Mail.  People used to send anthrax in it.  Sometimes even death threats.  That's gotta be stopped.  Communication and talking can be very threatening and spread around radical thoughts--can't let people talk.  Right?  This cycle.  This world gives me the biggest headache sometimes.  Blade can we all just move in with you, in Canada?  Please?

centimeters to where? centimeters per hour is a very slow speed...he isn't gonna get anywhere that slow

The Internet is a fantastic medium to get information across and to increase human sociability. I can video chat with someone in Japan if I want to. I'm having conversations with people on this forum who may live in Hawaii or Russia. To get rid of the Internet completely would be foolish. Bullying is a problem and anonymity makes it easier for someone to perform said bullying, but at the same time, that's something we just need to change. I don't want the Internet to be removed because of that - the benefits are too great to do that. We just need to keep working at reducing bullying.

So at most they could restrict access of people who use USA ISPs. They can't control the rest of the world...

Towards the fire while each of his fingers and toes are cut off, while a needle is pieced into his body every 15 seconds. While he is forced to drink the blood from which the needles get. While going towards the fire just a few inches per hour, he will slowly melt.

So at most they could restrict access of people who use USA ISPs. They can't control the rest of the world...

It's a quasi-decentralized network. Most of the companies that run the internet, or create equipment that the internet run off of are US based. Even ICANN, who are responsible for all IP address and domain names in the entire world, is US based.

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)
