Steam now lets you *permanently* delete games from your Steam account/library

TopWargamer

Obviously they would be able to reverse it on the steam support side. There would be records of purchased and deleted games. What games you own are just values in a database.

True but think of it this way: what if your account is 500+ titles? I don't even remember half of what I've got at any one time. If someone were foolish enough to not use SteamGuard properly; or even if someone bypassed it, would you notice a title here and a title there disappearing over time?

That's the scary part to me; because obviously yes, Steam would be able to backtrack but at the same time if there's a long enough span of time between it disappearing and you noticing, they probably won't do anything at all.

The New Machine: Intel 11700K / Strix Z590-A WIFI II / Patriot Viper Steel 4400MHz 2x8GB / Gigabyte RTX 3080 Gaming OC w/ Bykski WB / x4 1TB SSDs (x2 M.2, x2 2.5) / Corsair 5000D Airflow White / EVGA G6 1000W / Custom Loop CPU & GPU

The Rainbow X58: i7 975 Extreme Edition @4.2GHz, Asus Sabertooth X58, 6x2GB Mushkin Redline DDR3-1600 @2000MHz, SP 256GB Gen3 M.2 w/ Sabrent M.2 to PCI-E, Inno3D GTX 580 x2 SLI w/ Heatkiller waterblocks, Custom loop in NZXT Phantom White, Corsair XR7 360 rad hanging off the rear end, 360 slim rad up top. RGB everywhere.

Yeah! I can finally delete the old deprecated MMO versions like Age of Conan: Collector's Edition and Rift that aren't linked to the real games on Steam anymore because they went F2P and suck at kompootors.

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

So what if someone hacks into your account and deletes thousands of dollars of games?

If you are able to get hacked into your account you deserve to loose your games. Dumb password, no steam guard, no mobile steam guard.

Awful choice. Hackers will have fun with this. Hiding games is a great idea, not permanently deleting them. Awful, awful idea.

Makes sense, I guess if you knew you were never going to play the game again why have it there at all.

Or if you get so pissed at the Dev that you don't want any of their shit related to you whatsoever...

Also, parental control. If your kid buys a game with a gift card that you don't want them to have. Sure, not foolproof, but they'd have wasted their likely limited income.

y tho

If a parent wants to delete a game because their kid isn't studying in school might be one scenario.

Or if you want to never see that game again.

Or if you hate clutter, and just want it gone.

So what if someone hacks into your account and deletes thousands of dollars of games?

That would really suck, but they have numerous safeguards.

Does hacking Steam accounts happen that often?

Why would you ever want to literally throw money away

If you're never going to use it again...why keep it?

By that logic you should never throw anything away.

Awful choice. Hackers will have fun with this. Hiding games is a great idea, not permanently deleting them. Awful, awful idea.

It's already been mentioned a few times, but there are numerous ways to protect yourself from this.

You'd think they would've been able to do this with fraudulent trades...

The real question is why aren't you using two-factor.

Really doesn't matter anyway unless the game is multiplayer focused/only as any lost game can be recovered on the high seas

High seas, (I hope it's not what I'm thinking) If so.. find yourself a hole... crawl in and...

If you already bought the game why does it matter, the point of copyright law isn't to screw over consumers (though it can) it's to make sure creators get compensation, which you already did with the initial purchase. Either way this doesn't affect me really as I make my games work regardless and keep backups, both off site and on HDDs

Dual authentication can help a lot, but who asked for this feature?

Interesting that there are so many people opposed to giving the consumer complete control of their owned products?

If you guys are suggesting that YOU OWN IT, by purchasing it, then why can you not have it deleted so you essentially so not own it anymore?

You can do this with physical copies of old games. Toss them out. You aren't going to buy a game that just came out for $60, and then delete it from your account. You will be deleting games that were either cheap, or that you haven't ever played and won't.

I think you misunderstood the point? It's not that people don't want full control, it's that people don't want there accounts hacked and there games deleted.
