Steam now lets you *permanently* delete games from your Steam account/library

TopWargamer

If a parent wants to delete a game because their kid isn't studying in school might be one scenario.

Ouch. Why not just ground them from the computer??

Ground them for varying amounts of time?

I was once grounded for a month, that really teaches you a lesson. I think that deleting games from your library is dumb, it's kinda like snapping a game disc. Why not just take the disk away and give it back at a later time? That makes more sense. (That's what my mom said right now, looking at your original post)

What if you don't agree with the content in the game, and don't want them playing it?

You won't be giving it back to them later, so deleting it makes the most sense.

Steam account and support accounts are separate, you cannot just login to an account and delete games, you need to access the far less secure support account instead.

Also when it's taking them a month to reply to people now how does adding even more work for them work?

How did they get the game in the first place? That sounds like bad parenting if I've ever seen it.

All my games bought are by parent's permission (that's why I don't play GTA V, even though I really want it and have the money to buy it.) When I've moved out is when I buy whatever games I want. How hard is that for parents?

So what if someone hacks into your account and deletes thousands of dollars of games?

This they shouldn't have done that

I had Akrham Asylum and Arkham City, but I didn't have all of the DLC. During a sale, it was better for me to buy the GotY editions than to get the DLC. So after the purchase, having them on my account irritated me. So I got in touch with Steam Support. It was my first and only time doing so. It was quick and easy. After probably 15 minutes of the purchase, AA and AC were off my account and GotY were the only ones on there.

After hearing the horror stories about the support, I haven't bothered doing it since. Now, I can finally remove some other non GotY games from my library without possibly being put through the hoops others have gone through.

I think you misunderstood the point? It's not that people don't want full control, it's that people don't want there accounts hacked and there games deleted.

I don't know the answer to that, but I bet you Valve's developers took that into consideration when developing this system.

I also don't believe someone will log into your support page, navigate to each game, and select delete permanently. That is too much time, with no reward.

People hack your accounts simply to steal your items. That's it

You can't do it from the client, only help.steampowered.com.

Why? Just why? i understand if someone wants to hide a game from their history or uninstall to make room but what permanently remove access to it?

Even if I bought a game I would never play again I wouldn't just willingly delete it forever w/o some refund or realllllllly good reason.

They can hack your password on that as well, why does it have to be through the client?

No, there's lots of hackers that do it just to ruin someones day, I remember during the steam hack, people would log into summits account just to kick him off CSGO. Also someone could just make a bot that deletes everything really quickly.

afaik there is no steam guard file for help.steampowered.com, and if you use phone authentication they'd need your phone as well.

You can use a different password for the support site, no? Obviously you can use the exact same password, but that is extremely stupid. But, most people are extremely stupid with passwords anyway.

This is good for people who buy 4-packs of games. Usually when you buy a 4-pack, you cannot buy it again, and gifting it just results in one copy of the game. Deleting the game allows you to buy multiple packs.

hello!

GPU: GTX 1080

Storage: 1TB 850 Evo, 1TB HDD, bunch of external hard drives
PSU: EVGA G2 750w

Peripherals: Logitech G502, Ducky One 711

Audio: Xonar U7, O2 amplifier (RIP), HD6XX

Monitors: 4k 24" Dell monitor, 1080p 24" Asus monitor

Laptop:

-Overkill Dell XPS

Fully maxed out early 2017 Dell XPS 15, GTX 1050 4GB, 7700HQ, 1TB nvme SSD, 32GB RAM, 4k display. 97Whr battery :x
Dell was having a $600 off sale for the fully specced out model, so I decided to get it :P

-Crapbook

Fully specced out early 2013 Macbook "pro" with gt 650m and constant 105c temperature on the CPU (GPU is 80-90C) when doing anything intensive...

A 2013 laptop with a regular sized battery still has better battery life than a 2017 laptop with a massive battery! I think this is a testament to apple's ability at making laptops, or maybe how little CPU technology has improved even 4+ years later (at least, until the recent introduction of 15W 4 core CPUs). Anyway, I'm never going to get a 35W CPU laptop again unless battery technology becomes ~5x better than as it is in 2018.

Apple knows how to make proper consumer-grade laptops (they don't know how to make pro laptops though). I guess this mostly software power efficiency related, but getting a mac makes perfect sense if you want a portable/powerful laptop that can do anything you want it to with great battery life.

Perhaps this is for the region lock they introduced a few months ago?

There were people reporting they can't play their games after moving to another country cause the game costs more on the new country and region block restricts games bought from a cheaper source to be played on a country where it's more expensive.

Yes this does mean having to rebuy the damn game cause you moved somewhere else, but, it's better than never being able to play the game in your library forever.

Steam is like the most touchy thing ever, you can log in from another computer inside your house and it will make you go to your email or get a text on your cellphone to even log in again. There is almost no way somebody is going to "hack" into anybodys steam account let alone have enough time to fuck around on it.
