Crackdown 3 100% destructible environments, powered by the "cloud"

Got to admit it looks kinda great, I played the first crackdown very briefly on the xbox 360 and I enjoyed it. Looks like this is the first game that will utilize the "power of the cloud" that microsoft has been talking about for god knows how long. 

 

I think this only applies to the multiplayer experience, so worries about not being able to play the game in the future are moot points. I would imagine that they've toned down the single player physics engine to accommodate offline play.

I imagine it's going to create a shit storm again, with people complaining that you can't play the game without a connection to the internet. I guess that's why microsoft were trying to push always online, this and DRM, but probably DRM. 

 

100% destructible environments only seem like they're going to be on the multiplayer section of the game

That's still "the cloud", cloud computing is a concept that is much easier for none tech people to understand,

 

If I told my dad "some of the game is calculated in the cloud" he would be like "that's clever"

if I was like "the game console simultaneously sends data that is calculated server-side and it is instantly sent back to the console for rendering" his eyes would explode

Yep that is a massive issue with the cloud concept (also my issue with consoles, no backwards compatibility and DRM both PC and Console)

 

I buy a game to play now, what if I want to pull it off the shelf in 10 years and run it

not necessarily, I think most of the physics calculations are client side, and only some information is sent back to the server, for example BF4 has a "networked waves" etc but the destruction is updated by the client which updates the server and the server sends other players destruction to each client - instead of all of it coming from the server

also fine in multilayer modes, but what about single player? what if I want to play offline etc

Well the Xbox One is now backwards compatible In the future since the platforms we use are most likely to remain x86-64 then backwards compatibility will be a non-issue

I think it's only 100% destruction in the multiplayer anyway. From the way she introduces it seems like that. "by introducing a new revolutionary multiplayer experience" then she talks about the destruction, so I would imagine it's just toned down for the single player aspect of the game.

Its not fully backwards compatible, you cannot just grab any old 360 game and throw it in the tray

I imagine like the video shows, - looks like the destruction in Red Faction where you can totally topple buildings, bridges and entire factories to ground level

Anyway I like the concept, but I want it for PC.

I want GTA 6 with 100% destructible environment and I that is literally my child hood dream. Not GTA 6 but an open world free roam with 100% destruction

ahhh, that makes sense. You know, that EA would want to put too much money into their servers so instead taxes the clients pc.

Whelp, I hope everyone gets their fun of this game when it's playable now with the Cloud Service up and running. Because in 7 years when the servers get shut down because they're not making a profit, there's no way to play it. Hell, even if we get emulation down in the next 15 years, this is going to be so fucking hard to emulate when we get far enough on Xbone emulation. Not only would we have to emulate the XBone, but as well as the server side code aaannd the communication between the two.

7 years? You are being optimistic a lot. I give this game 3 years at most.
