Porn to be No. 3 virtual-reality market by 2025

By 2025, adult content is forecast to be a $1 billion business, the third-biggest virtual-reality sector, after videogames ($1.4 billion) and NFL-related content ($1.23 billion), according to estimates from Piper Jaffray. It’s the next “mega tech theme” in the U.S., akin to the mobile-phone industry 15 years ago, analyst Gene Munster said.

 

 

VR is catching up.. Google cardboard is good, but need Occulus to become cheap..

I feel sad for people who need VR for that.

EDIT, however if a demographic was going to make it big it would be the geeks.

Porn seems to be surprisingly ahead of the curve. There was a time the only easily accessible 1080p content was online porn, and porn sites were supporting high refresh rate videos well before YouTube. Even their comment sections are among the most respectful and good-natured. Probably because the people commenting in them had, erm, recently de-stressed.

Is the NFL really that big? And will NFL really be almost as big as video games in terms of VR content? I don't see how the NFL or NBA would benefit from virtual reality at all, unless you put on a billion GoPros on each of the players.

 

I think putting porn (or "adult content" which I assume means porn games as well) in third place is a pretty conservative estimates.
