Scrapyard Wars - Challenge Suggestion thread.

C_Mike

I'm really enjoying scrapyard wars, and love that they've had two different challenges so far.

I expect the LTT team probably have a few Ideas already in the pipeline, but with the whole community making suggestions I think we could get some really good ideas for future episodes.

I understand there are already a couple of idea threads, but I think it would be beneficial to have a central thread where everyone can suggest ideas, and we can keep an up to date List of suggestions.

So if you have a suggestion, or have already started a thread with a suggestion just reply with the Idea, or link to your thread and I'll add it it to the List. I have already added a few that I've found.

p.s.

If a suggestion is too similar to one already in the list it probably will not be added.

Current Suggestions

  • Build Laptop/Somewhat Portable PC
  • Build a case from scratch
  • Start with identical cases and mod for best aesthetics
  • Building a CryptoCurrency Miner(or maybe a F@H machine) - Suggestion by @Exploded117
  • Build a PC, but start with a few pieces of Difficult/Problematic components - Suggestion by  @XYrZbest
  • No PC case allowed, and can't buy a PC if it comes in a case already - Suggestion by @AlwaysFSX
  • One or more component chosen to possibly make it difficult for other team - Suggestion by @Jaybelz
  • Only pre-2005 hardware, with allowance of maybe one component - Suggestion by @Chronos5618
  • Most powerful rig, with increased budget over first scrapyard wars - Suggestion by @monaka25
  • All components must be colour-matched - Suggestion by @STRMfrmXMN
  • Make a PC into Retro Furniture - Suggestion by @Calavera
  • Best looking PC - Suggestion by @dionis.bajrami
  • No tools allowed, hand assembly only - Suggestion by @Trik'Stari
  • Hackintoshs - Suggestion by @elecxonica
  • Small Form Factor PCs - Suggestion by @Kazooey
  • Wall Mounted PCs - Suggestion by @Hero7750
  • Air cooling solutions from scratch - Suggestion by@Zubkover
  • PC made from free parts only - Suggestion by @bcredeur97
  • Passive Cooling Only, No standard Passive Coolers - Suggestion by @simson0606

Computer's don't make errors. What they do, they do on purpose.

I think a challenge should include the opposing team deciding a component in the build or a segment to sabotage each other somehow.

I understand you can make a 1440P gaming pc brand new for 1k, but how about a 4k gaming pc for AAA games. Not like LInus's non demanding 4k gaming rig. The challenge is to make the MOST POWERFULLLL rig possible for 1k USD, Whatever it converts too in Canadian dollars.

They should do a challenge where they have to color match everything in the build. That would not go so well which is why it must be done xD

You guys should make a PC into retro furniture.

Like what I am doing, I'm fitting a raspberry pi (possibly) and a chromecast into an old portable tube TV from the 80's ;)

28mck6s.jpg

There's another thread on here somewhere in which someone grabbed one of these wood-TV's from god knows how long ago and put a gaming PC in there.

Astatically it should look good and perhaps do something awesome with the hardware, something like cooling it with retro fans or whatever ;)

So many things I could write here... things like this.

Build the entire computer by hand. No tools what-so-ever, no coins to turn screws or anything like that, "hands only" in every sense of the term.

AND, to make it hard. No buying a pre-built PC. All components, (CPU, GPU, Case, PSU, Drives, etc) must be purchased individually.

Ketchup is better than mustard.

GUI is better than Command Line Interface.

Dubs are better than subs

Build a hackintosh that works with networking and audio for $3-400 (not sure what's a good price). I feel that could be interesting.

Normandy - Intel Core i5 3470, 8 GB Corsair Vengenace LP, EVGA GTX 960 SSC, Gigabyte GA-Z77M-D3H-MVP, WD Blue 1 TB, Seagate 320 GB (steam), Seagate 320 GB (experimental, second OS, etc), Windows 8.1 + Ubuntu 14.10

Garrus - HP Stream 11
