"Five-year-old passes Microsoft exam"

NoNameYet

Ayan Quresh passed Microsoft's Certification exam and called it "difficult but enjoyable".

I think that's pretty amazing. I wonder if it's that easy or if this boy is a genius.

Ayan Qureshi is now a Microsoft Certified Professional after passing the tech giant's exam when he was just five years old.

Ayan, now six, whose father is an IT consultant, has set up his own computer network at home.

He told the BBC he found the exam difficult but enjoyable, and hopes to set up a UK-based tech hub one day.

"There were multiple choice questions, drag and drop questions, hotspot questions and scenario-based questions," he told the BBC Asian Network.

"The hardest challenge was explaining the language of the test to a five-year-old. But he seemed to pick it up and has a very good memory," explained Ayan's father Asim.

Mr Qureshi introduced his son to computers when he was three years old. He let him play with his old computers, so he could understand hard drives and motherboards.

"I found whatever I was telling him, the next day he'd remember everything I said, so I started to feed him more information," he explained.

"Too much computing at this age can cause a negative effect, but in Ayan's case he has cached this opportunity."

Ayan has his own computer lab at his home in Coventry, containing a computer network which he built.

He spends around two hours a day learning about the operating system and how to install programmes.

When the boy arrived to take the Microsoft exam, the invigilators were concerned that he was too young to be a candidate.

His father reassured them that Ayan would be all right on his own.

The test is usually taken by people who want to become IT technicians.

Ayan's mother Mamoona is training to be a GP.

The family moved to England from Pakistan in 2009.

"I'm very happy and very proud, I don't want to see him set a world record every day. But I want him to do his best whatever he does in his life," she said.

Ayan says he hopes to launch a UK-based IT hub similar to America's Silicon Valley one day, which he intends to call E-Valley.

He also wants to start his own company.

I find this hard to believe. What kind of questions were asked? I don't think a five year old can do anything related to programming

Microsoft Windows is:

1) a Dog

2) an Operating System

3) a Subatomic Particle

4) Love

Made me chuckle, I always liked the dog more than clippy :)

I was the first person under the age of 18 to pass it in my state. Wasn't that hard then, but I had years of experience already. I'd bet money his father "helped" him study.

Not to be racist, but he looks like an Indian tech support guy already.

It's both cute and uncanny/creepy.

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

That's pretty awesome that he has so much of an interest at that age. I wish I had gotten into computers that early. At five I was probably too busy playing Pokemon to care about anything else.

Errr.... what? Do you know what the MCP is for? It's not necessarily for programming, but mostly for hardware/software technical support. You could pass the MCP and not know a single bit of coding.

I was the first person under the age of 18 to pass it in my state. Wasn't that hard then, but I had years of experience already. I'd bet money his father "helped" him study.

Why do you say it like that? Who cares if his father "helped" him? Perhaps the quotations around "help" has made me misinterpret your emphasis on the word?

Anyone can help anyone else study for an exam. The kid had to to do the tests, not his father. If he was able to pass after his father helped him study, then he's still a freaking genius child. I doubt I've ever met a 5-year old that could pass the MCP, even if I helped them study.

Anyway I find this incredibly impressive! Yeah, the MCP isn't exactly the most difficult thing... for an adult (or even an older teenager who has been involved in tech for years)... But for a 5-year old? What? That's insane! Most 5-year old's are still learning that 1+1 does NOT in fact equal cake (I know, it's a shame that it's not true).

Where can I do the test myself?

Generally a certified test centre. A local University or Technical School may offer them. You should check out the Microsoft website for details:

https://www.microsoft.com/learning/en-ca/microsoft-certified-professional.aspx

Basically you have to pass X number of exams (whatever the requisite is), then you'll become certified. They also offer courses (official from Microsoft or a Microsoft Partner, such as a University, or unofficial, online or through smaller technical schools), but the courses generally are just there to prepare you for the exams and/or teach you the material. Most courses DO NOT include the exams as part of the course/fees paid. There are the occasional exceptions though.

Ayan Qureshi is now a Microsoft Certified Professional

There are currently 218 exams available through Microsoft. There are many different exams that you can take to get the MCP certification. You only have to complete one to be a MCP. (The 218 number doesn't include exams no longer offered due to product being outdated or no longer supported). They cover every relevant product category and range from easy to incredibly difficult. He probably did one of the easy ones. That's not to discredit him, at 5 years old that is impressive and I think he has an incredibly bright future ahead of him. But I don't think he's performing miracles of genius either.

List of exams:

Only question on the test for help desk techs is "What is the only answer?"

A. Did you try turning it on and off again?

B. Your processor needs more gigahertz.

C. You do not have enough RAM.

D. Your motherboard does not support GigaThreading with that RAM.

Can you pass the test?!

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)
